I found this game easier when you changed the background. But only just.
I found myself using W-S-A-D & the arrow keys both to try and go faster :x

Best game ever!!!!
This is potentially the best game I have ever played on newgrounds. I really like the upgrade system and the whole movement system is brilliant as well. Also, the retro feel is great.
My only suggestion would be making a sandbox mode. I really enjoyed dodging the homeing missiles, therefore, a mode where you could chose which enemies attack you, and then see how long you can last against increasing numbers of them would be really fun.
