Reviews for "The Guardian: RPG"

very well done :)

very well done. yes it has the same concepts just like the game Zelda or is similar to it, but overall this game is very good, it does need some features added like a save/load feature. Graphics and game play and everything else was pretty good. Keep up the good work, waiting to see and play the sequel!!!

UknownXL responds:

Did you happen to play to the final boss? That, in my opinion, is the best part.

uhm...

in the very first level of the game (the house) if you stand all the way to the right of the table you get stuck. i didn't even get to play for two minutes. )8

UknownXL responds:

Try updating flash to its latest version. I was told by the collision programmer that it should fix all problems.

good but need improvement

I really liked this game.
I really did.
- Great graphics
- Interactive surrounding
-Almost Zelda like atmosphere

This is also your bane because everybody will compare it to zelda.
As you go along you should properly define you own style.
But never the less, some areas have to been improved.

'- COMBAT SYSTEM:
you have chosen graphics over gameplay. animations are great, but it is not clear where damage is dealt. it is a shame. I resorted to just holding the s key, let the mobs run into the sword, take a step back and repeat.
A quicker slash with a clear area for both mobs and hero would held. It would also be great to add a slight knock back, so you could defend yourself with the sword.
(+ The morph of the goo enemy, courses the game to lag slightly)

- MISUSE OF "A" BUTTON:
You have found a system that works and now use it for everything :( That's bad. It's a shame and courses overlap. As in I cut down a tree outside the shop, pick up the bomb/rupee AND get inside the shop. It's annoying and counterintuitive. you event use it for the mask, that you have equipped it on D! First time I teleported home after spamming D in front of the door masks. I suggest making pickups and walking into houses triggers, and reserve usage of items to the equipped keys :)

- Story issues:
¤ Too many unused locations. It is okay to add flavor, but planting building that do nothing is not flavor. Even if you first want to use a location in a later chapter it has to do something in the setting. Like the library, pub, potion shop and grandmother house. put in a book about the maske, A rumor that Conrad went into a cave, a carpenter building a new potion shop, you grandmother offering you sweets. You name it. nothing is more depressing that discovering there is 2 buildings you need and the rest is useless even flavor wise.
¤ The step from Conrad's house to the dungeon was weak, I spent quite a while looking for Conrad before thinking wtf I just go into the dungeon... that is not good. I think you should have put a note in his house saying something. I am in the cave/dungeon to the north. Story wise it seems random suddenly going into a dark labyrinth with monsters when you were supposed to meet a person at his house.

- Minor gameplay issues
¤ The smith ask for new ingredients after you give him the first/perhaps you code detects you don't have any wood/iron.
¤ You can't talk to grandma even though she got a a bit arrow pointing at her
¤ Why not keep the treasure chests after you defeat the monsters. it seems strange that an empty treasure chest appear after you kill the mobs.
And I don't think the door mask should reappear. Make changes consistent
¤ Somethimes when picking up a bomb a gem appear and the other way around.
¤ The dungeon music was random shifting between danger and peace. you triggers could use more work.
¤ A cut scene before the final boss is bad if you don't let the player initiate the fight afterwards. All you do is sit waiting on the moment you regain control and your opponent is just about to beat the crap out of you. If you want the cut scene make the opponent trigger when the player approach afterwards. That ways the playerhave time to prepare, rearrange inventory ect.

Wouw.. that was a lot but a really liked the game, and I'm crossing my fingers hoping your improve on the next chapter, so it becomes EPIC!

By the way some of the things I liked most in this game was the small things that made it all that more fun.
¤ Night/Day .. it was really cool that time mattered, Finding the night man a secret chest.
¤ Sleeping on the floor. It was cool you had thought it through with only one bed, and kind of funny that the hero should sleep there.
¤ The return to house button. It is really necessary as a way to control night/day. I loved it.
¤ The library letter in grandma's mailbox.

I'll hope you will continue to add elements like that, it is almost free and it adds so much to the game.
Great work and good luck with you next submission.

Thank you for the flash

could be a winner, but...

def lots of work put in to this and it is a good time waster. the music is also good.

however, too many dang bugs. i have a fast machine, and this still lagged hard on enemy scenes. additionally, i would "teleport" to random parts of the screen once the lag wore off. unfortunately, where i "landed" was sometimes partially off screen, so i would be stuck in the walls and not able to move.

you need to do lots of testing on a game to avoid situations like this. i was forced to return home (which is interesting that i can do this in a locked room sometimes LOL) and start dungeon over again in order to proceed.

finally, conrad never appeared in his house. i just figured id use bombs and go right to dungeon since i never saw him there. really weird.

TIPS AND TRICKS:
- once you get sword, destroy bushes for random items. i prefer outside of a store, cuz bushes respawn upon exit and entry. you can pile up lots of bombs and gold this way.
- do the same with vases and pots inside of homes. doesnt always work, but cant hurt.
- go to grandmas house and take library late fee money out of mailbox.
- when fighting goblins, stick and move is the best bet. three shots kills them with basic weapon.

Got stuck in the wall.

In the dungeon i got stuck in the wall where the goos are. everything else was good.
