Reviews for "All and Sundry"

Ace drums

Hey, ur drums & bass in this song are really good, ironic as it is drum n bass! But if i were u i'd loose the synth or at least completly change the structure of it.

Loose the little guitar sounding bit aswell.

Triskele responds:

Thanks for the review sir! Sorry I've been so long in responding. I'll send one back at you.

haha woah, shit me man

Strength to strength regarding the drums dude, i'm jealous of those drums, i cant make drums that resonant for some reason :S

I'm with padman on the cheesy synth, the difference is too much to take n made my ears pop.

I can see your ambition but it doesnt come out well in this case, the cheese is both too high n too low at the same time, possibly double synth, have one go an octave or two up on one oscillator, perhaps another synth done with saw waves an octave or two down to mix with the bass n provide the right modulation?

If you're using acid pro i appreciate its a cock of a programme, specially how if you want to use same in synth in different ways you gotta stop n export it before changing any settings, but sometimes shit like this has to be done.

Now i listen to it again i'd say yeah, drop the lead a couple octaves , make it in tune with the bass, then add another lead thats more piercing over the top of that. Ps basslines that are taken stupidly high can really assist high notes with piercing through cleanly. But then i'm not expert, i know less than many :S

Bass sound is good, but you NEVER want clipping, means you're gettin the track distorted in crazy ways. I used to do it myself dude, til someone pointed out to me that the master levels not meant to go into the red.

Sorry if i appear patronising, i just feel like you could've done this track better, but i know dnb isnt your usual style of writing, at least for NG anyway.

Triskele responds:

Thanks man. I still like the synth and bass, I guess its just a matter of taste. Keep in touch!

Syncopation!

Though the previous review makes a lot of sense, my sentiments are almost completely the opposite. That bass-line works wonders with me. That (again) Underworldesque jazz/fusion chords are awesome and that little synthy delayedly following it is brilliant.

The drums, if a little distorted (which I never really mind, and keeps happening to me too), are friggin awesome. That guitar interlude is cool too.

Still I feel it could've been taken a bit further, dynamically. It ends slightly too soon for my liking.

Check out my new one: "Hitler hacks LINUX". I'd really like to know what you think.

5/5 for this one. You rock dude.

Triskele responds:

I actually started this one a long time ago, but never finished it, cuz I thought that it wasn't going anywhere. I couldn't even find where I saved the damn thing until yesterday. Anyways, I just did a quick finish-up on it yesterday, so I probably could have expanded it more.

Thanks for the review!

Needs some work

I have to say I enjoy your techno a lot more, I think you may need to rethink a couple of aspects of this one.

The sub-bass (kind of) that plays from the start and for quite some time is way too resonant and quite off-putting. The rhythm of it is quite clunky, you need something more incisive and agile. Is it clipping perhaps as well? Lose it anyway.

The synth that comes in later is much too clean and wholesome, you need to dirty it up at least 300%. It's just too happy in general, when the bass is kind of foreboding and dark.

The beats are really great, I fully endorse them! Way better than I could program.

Sorry if I sound harsh by the way, this is just my opinion and feel free to zero vote on all my work if it makes you happy :) I'm cool with that.

Triskele responds:

NO! It's good to get constructive criticism.

I originally programed the beats in basic 4/4, and then offset some of them so that they were synchopated. I think they turned out great.

The Happy/Dark thing as purposeful, as was the clipped bass, and I like how both of them ended up. Sorry they didn't sit well with you.

Actually, I like the string-synth as well...that was actually a found loop, and I like how it contrasts with the rest of it.

Anyway, thanks for the review, I'll return the favor!
