This should win a few awards.
Never in my life have I ever spent so much time playing a flash game. Man, you really hit me hard emotionally with this. This has almost every element from every good game I have ever played, and I was sorry to finally finish it, after 307 hours, 26 minutes, and 32 seconds into it.
For those of you who are confused, or stuck, the beginning is only a sheer test of your will. You must have a strong heart, and a stronger mind to find your way through the unfocused, wet, world that is Duck Sim 2008.
The AI! Man, never in my life have ever seen such great AI! Not only were the enemies fantastically challenging, but your computer-controlled companions really LEARNED your play style! I was so glad to have Lisa by my side when I took on the third boss, because man, had she not zapped him when I had less that 1 piece of health left, I might have died.
And the storyline! Never in my life, will I ever find a masterpiece such as this. I was so emotionally attached, I found myself crying when my brother died. I actually CRIED. I say real men shed tears, and I've still yet to shed tears at a video game other than this one. It was like you were reading my heart; it was unbelievable.
Let's start off with the first few levels. The secret passage on level 2, I thought was very clever. The dark knights were SO FRUSTRATING; why were they so hard to kill? I used every weapon on my arsenal, and they all did the same thing! Nothing! I just figured they were invincible, but man, when they could stab/shoot you, and you couldn't shoot them back, it got hard.
If you took the secret passage, like I do every play through now, you end up on level 9, inside the cloud generator. Here, you acquire the sun beam, and the polar capsule, which are weapons used to destroy the solar crown. I wont spoil that further, but I will discuss some of the enemies.
The solar shines were the most awesome enemies ever. The beauty of their explosions really got to me, man. Every time I made one explode, I was in total awe, and generally almost died, but then again, I had Lisa to heal me. (Best companion EVER)
If you didn't take the secret passage (it's under the stairs...moron), you end up on level 3, naturally. Here, you encounter white knights, which are the dark knights that can teleport, making your life like, five thousand times harder, but it's fun, because you meet two new companions, Tom, and Don. They only stay with you through this level, but having You, Lisa, Don, and Tom on the screen insures many hours of fun, just on this level!
I suppose I wont spoil it further for you guys, but I would like to say a few more things.
Firstly, those who say that all the beginning level duck does is "Stick his head in the water," is clearly in denial. You obviously don't have the intelligence, or stamina to proceed anyway.
Secondly, this game requires dedication. It will know if you decide to get up, and leave it for a few hours. THERE ARE NO BREAKS, ONLY MORE KILLINGS.
Lastly, this is probably the best game you will ever play in your short life on this planet, so savor the experience.
I really hope you you gather what I did from this emotionally, and I hope you understand this game's message. If you don't, that's okay, I mean, I know killing things is fun, and so is solving puzzles, but there are some things that are more important in a game, and I'll leave you to figure out what this game offers for yourself. Trust me, you wont be disappointed.
I'm thinking of creating a fan-made walkthrough to this game, if I-smel would let me; I have to ask his permission. Until then, I leave you to brave the adventures of the land contained within Duck Sim 2008, and good luck travelers.
May the force be with you.
