not bad, but...

good points:
when you find an item it's automatically looted;
when you die you can restart from the same level instead of restarting right from the first one;
pausing the game with the menu window allows you to heal/equip with new items without worrying about monsters;
pretty cool fighting sistem.

bad points: potions cost too much for their healing power;
equipments' improvement doesn't follow monsters power/health incremention;
power ups are nothing great, in my opinion;
there are no saving points.

all in all i think that's a good game, i appreciated all the work you put in it, maybe you could make a new version with some improvements.

hatu responds:

Thanks. I was hoping people getting better with controlling the flail would outweigh the fact that the enemies get harder.

The powerups could use alot of work, but I just wanted something that goes with the flail mechanics.
Saving is something I'll look into.

Cool game but has some balance issues

I wandered around for a bit and didn't find anything to kill for quite a while. Then all of a sudden I was in a room filled with bad guys who swarmed me and killed me in a matter of seconds. I like the idea of the flail and picking up upgrades but it looks like it needs some more balancing

Something about it

You know, this really reminded me of Cythera, graphically anyway. That instantly put me on side.

It felt a bit like you were flexing your action scripting muscles - as in it was way more complicated than it needed to be. And sure, your muscular figure is very impressive (just to stretch the analogy), but I didn't really know where to go, or if I was supposed to somehow pick up the gold, or if I was in the right dungeon or where all the merchants where etcetera.

It seemed as two games, a simple arcade game and a complex RPG, that never seemed to gel together. Still fun for a while though, but maybe there are two simpler games inside this one, wanting some room.

I do love the story behind it.

hatu responds:

I did notice some of the same things myself and tried to help it with adding dialogue to the Guardian to tell you where to go.
This was the 4th or 5th iteration of the game, I was leaning more towards arcade and more towards RPG at some point.. didn't really like either as much as this.
*flexes actionscript bicep*

neat, but...

loss of mouse focus issues make this really hard to play the way I'm sure you intended. After losing focus ten or so times I just gave up. It's a real hit on your playability against the background of an otherwise pretty neat game.

Fix it for 3 more stars.

hatu responds:

What do you mean by losing mouse focus? Running the mouse outside the screen? I thought that might be a problem but there's not much I can do about on NG.

solid, very fun

The graphics disapointed me, but the engine and AI was very awesome <3. Sounds sort of got annoying, but thats what volume is for. Dieing didnt seem to do anything, except for restart the floor you were on. so drinking potions seemed pointless unless i was about to win and about to die. Lol anyway, i wish i could script like you, and yah. 4/5 7/10 <3.
