Reviews for "Civilization Machine"

so cute

and original idea

haha pretty awesome little game

It was great, for those having troubles, think about it before you press the button.
When that castle with missiles pops up, it's obvious something bads going to happen. so let it slide back alittle.

great little engine you have there, very abstract though, was very cool when those crytal spaceships appeared and launched off.
I don;t know what everyones complaining about, you don't go back to the beginning, there are checkpoints along the way.

Heh, maybe make some more scenarios, maybe some managment appart from the little button, or make it self sustaining? like something that runs in the background and you can check it every now and then and maybe change whats happening (like villagers).

great concept, very cool little engine but needs some expanding. cute graphics if a bit small and simple. Hope you do well in the project.

It's completely luck

It's just trial and error, and it gets boring fast when you're race can die with one mistake, sending you back to the start. It's a good idea, but I think with just one button it's too much luck and no skill or logic.

Ectonaut responds:

You've missed the point, and luck has nothing to do with it; there is no random aspect to the project at all, each action has a single defined outcome that you can explore and repeat as often as you like. It seems to me as though you're considering this to be a "game" in the traditional goal-oriented, sense, which is exactly what it isn't; it's an exploration of the idea that we continue to exist and thrive at any level of technology and that blindly advancing our tools is not necessarily always the most productive thing to do. There's no luck in that, and neither is there skill in the sense of being able to aim and fire precisely or match a colored block to another; it's not that kind of game. Your accusation that there is no logic in it, however, is a bit more disturbing; clearly there are points at which advancement or regression seem to be best, and the button and its effect work in a fairly predictable way if you've studied human history.

Think about what the intent of a piece of artwork is before you rush into experiencing it; I think you'll find more enjoyment in the things you see, and the artist will b able to extract more useful information from your feedback.

Not good.

No matter what you do it always ends the same, you dont get diffrent technology all that happens is that it takes a little while longer.
And sometimes you can't even decide if you want to press the button.

Ectonaut responds:

That's the idea, yes; the beans are always there in whatever sense no matter what you do. It's intended to be cyclic and loop back on itself. There are two levels that can't be "regressed" from, yes (the Eden and Fallout stages), because the tech level was so low it didn't make much sense to move backward further, but all of the stages can be "advanced" from with different effects.

Still great

It doesn't have any sound, but on the bright side, it gives me the oppurtunity to listen to music at least! Back to the flash, I know that this is a very serious flash, and it gives a powerful message about our impact on the world. It is still a fresh idea, as its idea will always be relevant.
