You may be offended, but..
I am starting to understand this flash more and more. The gray people are meant to seem scary because, growing up is scary. Pieces of our personality are taken away, and we are forced to accept the world as it is. However, we usually feel better about it and can live as hard working adults and can function in the world. The orbs are the embodiment of the person's purity and childhood. The red guy didn't know not to stand in the street, and he thought it was a good idea to kill himself. He obviously wasn't mature.
