Reviews for "Toaster-Hand Man"

Could have been better

Good movie, but I think it could have been better.

What I didn't like:
1) In the first part characters doesn't look well, because different drawing techniques were used for background and characters. Background is drawn as "pseudo 3D" (many shapes with fill only, no "stroke"), while characters are hand-drawn with a bit shaky contour lines. This is fixed in the second part of movie, but certainly doesn't look good in first part. It could be much better if environment and characters were drawn in the same style, shaky lines on characters with crisp, clean background give movie a bit "newbie-like" look. If there is a lighting on the background, then it should be on the characters (in first part they are simply flat). And if there is no lighting on characters, you could draw environment with the same style (see "dad at work" for example), and it would look good if there were a lot of movement.
2) "Depth of field" effect (blur, used on professor somewhere in the middle of the movie) doesn't look right. If professor blurs, then environment also should be blurred, otherwise it looks very unnatural. (There are boxes near professor, and they don't blur, although they certainly should blur with professor, because distance is same)
3) Music doesn't seem to affect story in any way - it just plays, but doesn't add any kind of special feeling or atmosphere. (after "bad idea" and "ultimate showdown" movies it's a bit disappointing). Soundtrack could be used to make fun of main characters by playing overly-heroic theme, for example.

What I liked:
1) I must admit that in scene where "THM" shoots toasts ad "microway guy" he is drawn perfectly (no shaky lines problem, and lighting from shots is great). Graphically, It's best part of the movie.
2) It's nice that you tried to use blur to focus attention on the person currently speaking, although it wasn't perfect.

Overall it's a bit slow, and certainly lack "something special". It could have been more dramatic, action-packed or more funny. The idea about "toaster hand man" and "microwave villian" is interesting, but it should be developed somehow, I think.

it is good movie, but it could be better.

Mikextro responds:

First off thank you for the lengthy review! Secondly, I know that there is a major style/graphic change mid-way and that was due to a break during the project - future episodes will stay "crisp" and consistant. I agree that the lack of light sources or shadow make it seem flat like you said, and now that you point it out the blurring was off in some places. As for the music choice I'll keep your words in mind, but overall I have no regrets with the audio work. Thanks again for the review, I really apppreciate any constructive critisism and really value your eye for detail.

Wow...

...very funny. I hope you got a good grade for it. I give it an A.

amazing

awesomly hilarious man.

Mikextro responds:

Thanks Kags!

Nice

Pretty funny, and kinda sad. It would suck to have a toaster for a hand. But that was a delicious pile of toast and microwavable stuff!

Awesome

You are truly a master of the anti-climactic moment.
