Reviews for "-A New World-"

So original

Yo man, this shit is honestly one of the most original songs I've ever heard on NG. I'm not even a big fan of this type of music but I mean, you really made it a fucking SONG, not just a bunch of repetitive bullshit like the rest of us do. I envy that skill (which I'm working on to improve). The transition from 1:08-1:13 was fucking nuts and your use of dynamics was on point as usual. I know you've said that you're not looking into going commercial with your music, and I respect that, but at the same time the world needs creative geniuses like you. Keep it up bruh, I'm looking forward to more of your shit!

Hey man, thanks a lot for the review. I really appreciate all the reviews you've been doing on my songs!

Wow, what can I say? Thanks a lot! Although a friend of mine tells me this is repetitive so I wouldn't call its variety that perfect :P.

"I envy that skill (which I'm working on to improve). The transition from 1:08-1:13 was fucking nuts and your use of dynamics was on point as usual."

Glad you like them! I owe it to SBB for the 1:08 transition, since if it wasn't for his suggestions then it wouldn't have that string buildup and the descending guitar glissando... thing.

Aw thank you :3.

Thanks again for the incredibly supportive review, I really owe you one. Reviews like these are one of the reasons why I still get inspiration to make new songs, so thanks a lot!

Excellent

I swear one of the drums is clipping on a high frequency on my speakers, but then my speakers are crap anyway.

The song has an incredibly varied feel to it, yet succeeds in maintaining a distinct atmosphere through clever combinations of harmonic and rhythmic motifs. The production quality is incredible. It sounds like something out of a movie and far surpasses my own attempts at a similar atmosphere. I think there are places where the song could be refined, possibly with a few melodic embellishments and mixing tweaks, but its still absolutely incredible.

Step responds:

Wow, never thought I'd get a 9 from you, haha. Thanks a lot, and thanks for voting 5 too - it might just be the reason that this song got a Top 5, I owe you one.

"I swear one of the drums is clipping on a high frequency on my speakers, but then my speakers are crap anyway."

I was kinda lazy with the EQing this time, it's true :3.

"The song has an incredibly varied feel to it, yet succeeds in maintaining a distinct atmosphere through clever combinations of harmonic and rhythmic motifs."

It's something I worked particularly on. I'm pretty crappy at making long songs so I figured the only way to keep the song sounding like one song and not random, but at the same time satisfying my obsession of variety, was to grab some short drum rhythms and melodies, and repeat them in certain parts of the song. So I'm really glad you think it worked!

"The production quality is incredible. It sounds like something out of a movie and far surpasses my own attempts at a similar atmosphere."

That's thanks to East/West. And the Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra soundfonts that you shared, which are GREAT by the way.

"I think there are places where the song could be refined, possibly with a few melodic embellishments and mixing tweaks,"

Agreed on both cases. Listening to it again, I definitely think I could've added a few more melodic embellishments, especially in that part after the second chorus, and I didn't work as much on the mixing as I usually do... I get lazy sometimes :3.

"but its still absolutely incredible."

Thanks for the feedback!

My 'New World'.

Although this is not my favorite music genre, I have to admit that you've done a great job here. This is the first time I get hooked to a song like this one.

The beginning is great; it starts quiet and softly, and the song builds up smoothly. That must be pretty hard to make, but knowing your other songs, I know you have skills at making music.
The bassline is very catchy, and I love the flute, especially when it does the "Bb - C - - Bb - C" notes. The piano fits perfectly well. I love pianos (I play the piano), and its notes are perfectly well placed.
This song has an unique ambience. It gives you such a great, relaxing feeling, as if you were dreaming endlessly; something that I've seldom experienced while listening to a song like this one.

A dream of a new world, something that starts being obscure, you don't know where you are, so you stand up and start your expedition. You're alone. There is almost no vegetation, just cactus and rocks. The wind is blowing strongly, the sand is flying and striking you, trying to stop you. But you don't listen to it. You just continue. You don't feel the force of the wind. You're being guided by your desire. The desire of finding the place where you're travelling to, despite of that you don't know where are you travelling to. You're just moving forwards. Because you know that, even if you have to travel for days, months, or years, if you keep the pace and don't give up, you'll get to the place where you've always wanted to be. Because, even in those moments where you say you would prefer to be dead, there is always hope. Because, instead of seeing the world's worst face, it's better to see its best face. Because that's the new world.

That's what I can imagine.

And I've been listening to this song for almost thirty minutes (while writing this review). Let's say that you've brought me to a new world for thirty minutes.

Thanks for notifying me of your new submission. You deserve the 10/10 and a 5/5 (x5.01) from me.

And let's make a final question (destinated to anyone who wants to answer it).

¿What's your 'New World'?

Step responds:

Wow, thanks so much :D. I really appreciate the long review and writing the scene which this song made you imagine too!

This is the first time a song like this got you hooked? I'm impressed actually, songs like this get me hooked instantly. In any case I'm glad it interested you!

Intros are kinda hard, I agree. My biggest difficulty when making an intro is making the song start interestingly but still make sense along with the rest of the song. Intros aren't really my strong point.

I love pianos too. I've used a piano in loads of my submissions (and I play piano as well). I'm a sucker for its sound, diversity and the fact that it fits so well in so many genres.

The scene you wrote is awesome, I'm flattered that this song made you think all that!

Anyway, thanks for the large review. If I had the ability to add reviews to my favourites, I'd add this one!

Thanks again :3.

Pretty damn sexy, to say the least.

Ok, the intro started off okay, but despite having a good structure and all that, it could have used some really low bass notes, just to compliment it all.

Also, I hate that snare :P

Other than that it's beautiful :3 Good Job!

Fav'd.

Step responds:

Thanks Dan!

Weird that you don't like the snare because quite a few people seem to like it. But hey, you're quite picky about your snares huh? :3

Thanks for the review, it's also pretty damn sexy. Hope school's going alright with you!

I likes c:

It reminds me of a blend between Chrono Cross and Worms (and other things whos names elude my memory). I like the happy feel about it.

Step responds:

Sweet, it reminds you of Worms? Love that game.

Yeah this is one of my "happier" songs I think, lol.

Thanks very much for reviewing!
