How old are you now? Also, did you get a good grade for this at said college? If so, the downgrade of American intellect is simply inevitable... especially if this had been consitered to be at least a mediocre piece of artwork by your teacher. (Unless of course you are in the special ed classes, in that case I am sorry!)
