It's great to see a defense game that isn't simply building things and crossing your fingers, hoping you made the right choice. I am glad to see a game that allows you to take an active roll in defense rather than sitting and waiting.
Unlike other games of its genre gemcraft doesn't beat you over the head with its difficulty curve. For the most part the "creeps" move at a pace the player can keep up with. If the player finds it too slow s/he can summon the next wave. If it's too hard the player can work on beating his/her score on lower levels so they can increase their current wizard lv.
Another nice aspect is that towers don't max out (at least I have never seen this happen) and obsolete towers can be combined into newer more powerful ones.
overall the game proves quite enthralling.
