Pretty much everything is true. Oh, and truesonicmstr, he was considered for all those things, but the game's development really started with a rabbit. However, because they changed the gameplay, they decided to make the character a hedgehog. The bunny's game is still out, but he's been changed to a star in Ristar. =)
As for Amy's age, she was originally 8. Tail's IQ was confirmed in the Sonic Adventure 2: Battle Manual. And even though some people may like it, the majority of those games stated were bad. However, I think that STH was okay, but it had more potential. Still, the bad reviews support it. Hopefully Unleashed will bring Sonic back.
@HyperSoul1425: Yes that's true but in the game it said the ARK was made over 50 years ago and so was Shadow
