Reviews for "Voyager Breakout"

pretty good

definitely need to do something about that music though, at least a less obvious loop. also i think my ball may gone trough the edge of the paddle a few times, not sure though

well...

good music...
but definately not that hard
ive beaten the game on my first try.. and 1 lost just 2 balls(okay...3..but the 3rd wasnt fair =O didnt notice that it comes always from the middle...)
well all in all not bad,the blinking bricks were kinda funny
but it hasnt any upgrades n stuff =/

stian7 responds:

Thanks.

Seems many are complaining about the middle thing. Maybe I should fix it.

Fun but...

...gets boring really fast.

ok..

the good: graphic style is much better then last time. the little trekie in me was happy. sound effects were well implemented. blinking blocks were a nice touch.
the bad: well.. basicaly everything that was wrong with the last version is still there besides the graphics.. hit detection on blocks still misses a lot. no off button for music and sound effects in game (WHY?). no power ups which would make the game that much more fun. and of course its a breakout clone. i personnaly love them, but they are heavily over done.
the frustrating: losing a ball (hehe) because the ball starts in the center of the screen headed down and the pad starts wherever you left it. make the ball stick to the pad at the begining or at least force the pad to the center or something.

stian7 responds:

Look one more time and you will notice that it's an off switch in the menu for the music.
About my little clone, I agree with you, there are a lot of them. But you see, I'm in the learning faze so then you go through a lot of the classic games.
Though, breakout games are not as overdone as Dress up games.

About loosing the ball in the center. I always reach it, so I never thought it was a problem.

Thanks for the review :D

Breakout with a slight twist

This is very much a Star Trek game. I wish it had upgrades and a more reactive paddle in later levels.

I mean come on, you give us a breakout game without those upgrades, and with the theme it wouldn't be too much to ask for phasers (pshhhh!) and triquarters (an item that shows you where the other items are on the level). I wouldn't even mind a com-badge item that when grabbed it would give you a short sound clip from Voyager or something (yeah I know, wishful thinking as every clip you'd add would make the game much larger in file size).

Glaring flaw of the game is the ball always poping up in the center of the screen, where in other breakout games it at least pops up somewhere over the vicinity of the paddle. I'm also not so sure if I like the 6 level thing. Don't make the bricks any smaller, but maybe you should include some bars that are different lengths and sizes.

Still. Very interesting concept for a new style of the game. Kudos.

I try to avoid copyrights. If I had got the star trek theme, I would have broken copyright law.

Thank you for a long review :)
