Reviews for "NSG015: Apples & Bananas"

rather fun, if simple

Hehe, this quiz was tricky. Quite a tangent for Pico Day, I suppose, but I don't mind. Some of the photographs were quite tricky, and I liked the placement of a few easy ones towards the end.

Perhaps this game helps the viewer walk a mile in Pico's shoes by simulating the sort of simple-minded and exasperating quizzes schoolkids receive, driving them to alienation and ultimately homicidal violence? Did I get it right?

I felt the music was catchy, and the sound effects provided effective reinforcement. It was a pretty short & simple game, but well-executed and conceived.

Woo! Someone enjoyed the tune! :-D

YES! If I do another version next year, I'll use that quote.

Also, Pico's School's opening dialogue.

I would have liked to know your score, but thanks for an awesome review.

Nice

Quite a funny game. The graphics were pretty good, and I liked how all the pictures were black and white. I guess it would´ve been way too easy if they were colored so that was a good idea. The little animation after you answered a question also looked nice.

As for what could improve, I think the backgroundsong was a little annoying. It was funny at first, but I just had to turn off the speakers after a while. It almost drove me crazy.

Also, the game has absolutely 0 replay value as all the pictures are the same and they stay in the exact same order. Maybe you should add a lot more pictures and let the program pick 20 randomly.

Overall 7 out of 10, 3 out of 5. It was a nice time-waster. Keep up the good work.

Originally, I was gonna have the starting ones be coloured, then go B&W, then pixellated, blurred etc. I think starting off with B&W art helps show that it's not gonna remain totally easy throughout though.

The text took a little bit of experimenting. I almost didn't bother adding the trails for 'wrong' and 'timeout' but it definitely makes a big difference.

Sorry about the song. It's meant to be my version of the song that I think Tom Fulp references in Pico's School, but my mic had static and I didn't spend the requisite amount of time to get it to sound good... I guess I could ask someone else to do a better version...

Randomly chosen pics? Maybe for next year...

Thanks for the great review!

Alright

It's kind of a silly game but it seems to have been done pretty well, though some of them are kind of hard to work out but often the texture gives it away, I can tell them appart but time limits cause silly mistakes. Randomising the images would be a pretty good idea too, that would mean that you could memorise what they are, lol. The message at the end is also pretty funny and the verious other messages.

The music was okay, though after a while it did become a little eh, it was good for a bit though, maybe a mute button or something, not to say it's bad but when you want to play over and over to see how you can do, it does get boring to listen to. But overall, a pretty decent game.

4/5

You're obviously a lad who knows his fruit! Congrats!
Would have been nice to know your score, but enh.

Randomisation and mute buttons are both excellent ideas.

Thanks for the top-banana review!

Both!

Simple concept for the game, coupled with the difficulty of certain iamges that you've given us. The best thing that you did for this was removing the colour of the pictures, as that way it really does make it quite a challenge.

I thought that I'd do really well with this game, but first time out, I got 17 of the 21 available, so it proves that under the time limit, you've got to think very fast in order to get the answers right.

A good interface and the only issue that I really had with the whole program was the audio track that you used - it could do with a mute button, just to preserve my sanity :P

Bezman responds:

Thanks for the review!

Looks like most got 17-19. It's really hard for me to judge the difficulty when I took the pics myself, so I'm glad it worked out OK!

If I have half-arsed music on any future submissions, I'll remember the mute button. Sorry about that.

I figured I'd comment.

I love your avatar, Bezman.

On the subject of the game - not insane, but not bad. It was as good as you could get with the way the game was.

Also, the soundtrack was insane. Post on the audio portal. Nao.

Bezman responds:

Thank you very much!

Btw, I recognise your name, but I'm not sure how I'd know it...

Surprised you wanna dl the track! I tried to upload it just now JUST FOR YOU but NG doesn't seem to recognise the mp3, even though it plays fine on my PC. :-/
