At first
I wasn't too impressed with the overall concept in the first you started sketching. I was thinking he looks pretty standard (guy with a sword).
Then you started creating a tighter outline, and started adding in the base colors, and the character really started to shine.
Seriously, your drawing is very TIGHT. Are you using a tablet? I can't imagine getting such details using a mouse (what with Flash also smoothing out your lines with vectors every time you draw something down >_>).
I actually love the smiley face head! That makes him all the more creepy! I say, keep the innocent smiley face so his enemies don't see his big ass sword coming their way!

That's very good. I grade pretty damn hard so don't take the rating to heart, but I thought you did very well for the most par. The art is nice and it has full detailing to give it it's soul. Thing that got me was that you didn't make any sort of animation with him at the end. He was fully drawn so joint movement should last you little time. Nonetheless, I thought it was a very well drawn picture, but it could have been given more life in the animation field. Looking forward to the first flash.
