Reviews for "Raptek Arena"

Good. Just a few suggestions.

1.) Make the interface easier to read. I know making things circular is neat, but it's much harder to interpret out of the corner of your eye. Just make straight gauges; they're easier to keep track of. Also, make sure the health guage is the most prominent, then the shield gauge, then the special attack gauge. If you want to make sure the player doesn't forget to use a special attack, then make the gauge dark when not full, and have it flash rapidly when it finishes so it catches the player's eye. Also, let the player use items with the 1, 2, and 3 keys as well as the mouse.
2.) Create specific spawn points for enemies. Create visible doors into the arena, so the player knows where the enemies might come from, and where to stay away from. Nothing's more frustrating when a new enemy suddenly spawns right behind you.
3.) There are a few glitches with the music. It sometimes neglects to start up when the gameplay begins. Also, the movement of the enemies is a bit shifty. They often move a step to the left or right, but not evasively, more "slight rendering problem"-y.

Other than that, nice game, and here's to a good score.

Kelemas responds:

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll write some considerations here so everyone can read and give an opinion... if you don't mind!
I'll surely follow the first one... the 3 gauges already got some brighter colour when they are full, but evidently not enough :)
Regarding the "items with keys" I'll think about it a little, since it's done this way on purpose: only the topmost item can be used. Maybe i can add a Button to use it, but aren't there enough buttons already?
I'm open to opinions from the other users.
Number 2: consider it done :) The spawn points are already specific... (16 of them scattered on the perimeter) It's very easy to make them visible!
Number 3: The shifty movement: It's an added feature to make the movement a little realistic! Otherwise it seems the monsters are skating... :) I can eliminate that if it's ugly to see.
the music: some songs start with very low volume and than build up. Could that be hat you experienced?

Anyway... Thank you again!

GOOD, but insanely hard.

difficulty is way too hard. i never got past the first level. but overall, good game. it was so good, i even enjoyed getting my ass kicked!

Kelemas responds:

Have you tried the Warrior? With shield raised (hold down SHIFT) and attack strength maxed, you should get past the first level. Also make sure to use the objects the monsters drop (left click on the inventory or activate the AUTO USE feature... the little "A" on the left of the inventory).

Either than that, difficulty seems to be a common issue, I'll think about lowering it a bit... :)

good game

but it was way too difficult to even get past the first level, i tried at least 5 times with all different classes an still didnt work. having more health or maybe puttin less guys out at first would make it easier but it just seemed way to hard

Kelemas responds:

Try with the Warrior, putting all the three points to attack strength, and be sure to keep SHIFT pressed to use the shield. It will automatically absorb all the damage you take from the front, but will eventually break. With shield up, get as close as the enemies as possible, to maximize damage and kill the low level ones with one, max two attacks. Try to be quick at killing them before they attack you, and the shield will last a couple of stages.
Finally: as soon as the game starts, activate the Auto Use button (the "A" near inventory). This way if you pick up something you'll use it automatically.

Good Luck!

its good

but a save option would b great, & the characters need more detail

Kelemas responds:

Don't worry: Savegame will be there very soon... It will have a setback on the score, but you'll be able to save at shop.
As for the characters, maybe I can put some background notes... we'll see!

Eh?

The controls were quirky. I kept dying right in the first screen. The fact that you have to use both the mouse as well as the WASD keys to do anything meant that it wasn't very enjoyable.

Kelemas responds:

Sorry to hear that.
I thought that the WASD + SHIFT + SPACE combination was a good one.
Unfortunately, you have to use keys + mouse if you want to move in a direction and attack in another... like walking back or strafing while slashing/targeting your enemies.
Maybe I could add an "easy interface" mode with only keys to control the character, but how could I accomplish the same task?
Have you got some suggestions? Please PM me if you want.
I'm striving to better this game every day!
