Reviews for "Christmas will allways be safe"

Waw, this is freakin' amazing.
Truely nice work, there's so much detail and texture. Santa's looking badass!
Great piece!

Dude this is amazing. you really have a story behind your piece and the way you use photographs for texture is genius. The atmosphere/ mood is on point.
But heres one question: aren't you a proffesional?

10 outta 10 :D

Flowers10 responds:

Well, yeah but Ive only been working for half a year tho. practiced hard to come to this stage!
You can actually see over 5 years of progress in my art thread: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1215490/1
Maybe ill make a tutorial out of this there seems to be lots of interest.
And thanks haha!

Awesome piece, brother! I do have a couple of criticisms that I hope you will find useful:
1. Grim, dark, bad ass, but not entirely epic - I feel like your piece could have used more action poses to strengthen the idea of Santa being epic. I feel like a soldier shooting is more interesting than a soldier walking IMO.
2. Photoshopping in your references instead of painting them - this one is very straight forward, this is specially noticeable with the snow.
Please excuse any grammar errors :) I will upload my entry soon, it's nowhere near as good as yours but I do hope you can review it and help me improve :)

Flowers10 responds:

Thanks mang! I'm looking forward to seeing it!
1. Yeah i suppose your right them shooting would probobly be more epic. but because of my design background i wanted it to seem like a convoy them protecting the presents with santa leading.
I feel like if they were all fighting the trucks with presents would be kind of out of place, like what are they doing in a battlezone? good idea for a different pic tho!
2. i'll let you know that about 90% of the pic has been painted, the trick is to use the photoshopig right and in the right spots.

AWESOME I LOVE IT!
It's really cool how it has this grim feeling to it, not very Christmasy but it fits the military style and has a somewhat anti-terrorist feel to it. And it it gives it a very American feel with the Christmas inc on the truck, like this is some kind of private army
detail wise its done very well too, putting detail where its needed to guide the eye and painting it out where its not.
Incredible on all fronts!

Flowers10 responds:

Hehe thats a good eye you got there. Thanks!

This is very good! i'd say for a concept piece or matte painting it works well but for an illustrative piece work a little bit more on painting your own things or at least completely repaint your references if they are strong; especially stuff like the snow. Taking the time to do this will make your piece more immersive because you aren't distracted by the stark difference between photo and painting. Also you will achieve a higher resolution picture. I hope you find this constructive coz i really like this picture and i really like artists making awesome things to look at. If you don't know of Marek Okon, check him out. You'll like his stuff.

Flowers10 responds:

Haha I'm a concept artist after all, for me its more about the idea.
And the obvious matte painting like in the snow is done on purpose, i put detail where i want the viewer to look, drawing them into the picture and helping the composition.
