Reviews for "Bushy's Cleanup Crusade"

Loved it

This is a really great and original concept, I loved the problem solving aspect and mixed with platformer elements really makes it something special. It runs a little slow at times, and the slow energy recharge made me a little stir crazy. The graphics are really complete, though they're probably the only part I could see having a lot of possible improvement on especially the menus. Overall, great job!

Oh, and the contest doesn't end until the 10th so I don't know what that other guy was smokin'

smokinjoeevil responds:

Thanks for the review. Definitely glad you liked it... and I completely understand about the menus. Thinking back on it, I was so concerned about trying to nail the abilities and make some interesting and entertaining level enhancements (like the mushrooms and the goats)... the more directly impactful, creative aspects, that I seem to have skimped on the polish of the menus.

Also, I realized a bit to late that the energy-bar start amount and re-charge were a bit too tight. I made a change to the version uploaded on here that gives the player a bit of a boost with each colected piece of garbage, which should alleviate the issue almost entirely for anyone not trying to explore the entire screen/level. Am I allowed to submit such a change to the FLA back to you?

Its a great game

I just can't get past lvl 3 could you please help me with that?
I love the good wigi games

smokinjoeevil responds:

You'll probably be disappointed when you do get past it... 'cause its the last level.

At any rate, you obviously need to use the catapult leaf to get from mountain-top to mountain-top in several situations. General advice would be to make sure you throw the seed for it so that it lands as close to the ledge as possible. It doesn't have to be all the way out, but the closer you get, the more landing area you're going to have on the other side. Also, the last jump you need to make with the catapult will land you straight into a set of platforms with enemies on them both. So, if you have troubel with this jump, make sure you throw the catapult, then switch to the capturing vines' seed before you actually make the jump. You can throw the seed in mid-air to try and get it on the enemy's platform and snag them up before they get you after you land. Other than that, the rest of the level shouldn't require anything more than the standard flower and bridge seeds.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Great!

I'm slightly worried about entering the Wiggi World contest now - this is the first entry that I've been completely impressed with. The idea is original, the gameplay is fun, and the variety between the levels and seeds is impressive.

However, as its been said in a past review, the menus could perhaps use a bit of brushing up, and the power recharge was a bit slow, causing a slight annoyance at times.

Overall, great game - good luck in the contest!

smokinjoeevil responds:

Thanks for the review. Didn't mean to cause anyone worry! But I'm glad that you were impressed. I tried to compensate for the energy situation with a change made to give a bit of energy each time garbage is collected. But... that doesn't do anything for the recharge rate, which seems to be the more annoying issue.

One thing I thought about these games is that, if they are on a site like Wiggi World where kids can gearn "credits" as they play them, then a certain amount of required mastery is probably a good thing. Meaning that, the better/more-efficient you get at playing, the better score you can achieve. I myself, having of course designed the levels, am able to make it through the game with at least a bit of energy to spare on each level, in under the time limit for some extra points, and with an overall score of over 13,000. That's without collectinge every single piece of garbage, of course. And that takes a bit of mastery, as I said. But that's what it would take to earn the top credit amount, which sort of makes sense.

Impressive

Quite a game you have there, I have to say. You seem not to have any problems with ideas, which is the most important thing. Executing your ideas is another thing, you have some issues to resolve there, but you are totally on the right track. OK, where to start from. Controls menu - should clarify that on rollover you get info about controlls, because people are lazy and they might miss that. Funny thing is - I didn't find a "back" button in this menu, so I had to close the window and open the game again to play it. Maybe there is but I couldn't see it. Another thing - controlls on the first seed were not working very well all the time, sometimes it allowed me to move it up just a little so I had to press on it like 15 times to get it to the height that I wanted. Check this one out if you can. The catapult grapics on ejection didn't seem realistic - it looked like you're going to fall down and in the next second you're flying high.
I know you spent quite a while on the graphics and they are good, but not great, you should work on that a little more.
Overall - despite the problems with controls and everything else mentioned, you have an excellent game concept. I salute you and I wish you good luck from now on.

smokinjoeevil responds:

The button on the instructions screen to get back to the main menu says "Main Menu"... right under the only other text on that screen that says "Mouse over images for controls"... so when you say people are lazy, and aren't going to take the time to notice... my guess is that you have first-hand experience.

Also, with the first seed and having to click on and off of the flower to raise and lower the platform, my guess here is that you had used up all of your super-power (noted, for your convenience, in a little log filled with the green of the power bar in the top-left hand corner of the screen). Each time you try to raise or lower the platform without any energy to do so, you are turned back into the main character again because you no loinger have the power to affect the flower.

However... even though there are legitimate explanations for why the game "failed" for you at times, I do understand that certain things could have been spelled out better to the player. Like walking through the features of the HUD at some point, and specificaly citing the energy meter that allows you to utilize your seed powers, etc.

Thanks for the review.
