I don't have much experience with pixel art; but as far as I know, this is really well done!
To answer your question, I love rubies. I don't know why, but I guess I like them because of the transparency and nice dark red coloration.

Opal is my birthstone and in general I’ve always been a sucker for gems with cool lighting effects (opal, tiger’s eye, etc). I find it hard to pick a specific one, though, because I am a human magpie and all of the shiny rocks are cool to me.
