Thought-Provoking, Well-Designed

Not only did you articulate this concept masterfully, you gave it a really interesting background in your comments. I love it! What if the hagfish had evolved? It's a neat little concept. As for the art itself, you happened to focus a tremendous amount of detail into this concept, making a figment of your imagination look surprisingly realistic. Great job!

jouste responds:

thanks for the review!

i try to cram in a lot of description in case people don't like my stuff. luckily you seemed to like both!

and i really hope hag fish don't evolve, luckily they are apparently un-changed for millions of years or something like that.

Very professional.

It's very nice from a superficial viewpoint (not using the word negatively, it's just the appropriate term to use here). Based on my huge expertise and experience (of looking at the pictures in the Dungeons And Dragons manuals over and over again) I would say that it's about the same caliber as a low-quality professional illustration for a fantasy comic-book or light novel.

There's nothing about the drawing that makes me interested, there's nothing that makes me want to know more about that creature, where it comes from, where it's going, or what that staff does. The key thing here is that when I look at the image, I think "that is a cool picture".

...but not "that is a cool creature". Do you see what I'm saying?

5/10 | 3/5.

jouste responds:

phew!

luckily i'm not involved in fantasy comic-books or light novels or i'd be a goner!

i actually agree that my art is really superficial. i tend to draw things fast and move on, i get really bored with things very quickly so i usually take aesthetic shortcuts on a lot of elements to just get a "that's cool" out of people.

thanks for the review!

hopefully you'll find some of my other stuff more to your liking. :)
