Yes, it is. Altering something to function as it was not supposed to is hacking. Which is usually legal. Getting into and modifying or obtaining information from a remote PC without authentication or permission is cracking. Cracking is almost 100% illegal.

No, that's just because I was too lazy to update avast! and my laptop's touch pad driver kicked in telling me that since an external mouse was connected, the touch pad was disabled. And I think the other one was just telling me that I was connected to a residential gateway.
