Reviews for "Fan Game 0.39"

Nice.

Ha ha. When you called it fan game I thought you meant fan as in occupation. Then you say v0.39 so would that make this a beta so will we be expecting another version? Anyway, the game was fun for a few minutes. A few bugs, so I hope you fix some in a new version. No sound? Sound might be nice. Still, a nice game you got there.

Yep. I add versions numbers to show that there's still work to be done. v1.0 will basically be the version I'm aiming for just now.

A few bugs, so I hope you fix some in a new version

In future, if you let me know exactly what bugs you're talking about, that'd be great.

No sound? Sound might be nice.

Indeed. I'll try and source some suitable stuff.

Still, a nice game you got there.

Thanks! Glad you liked.

Stay funky!

I liked it

I think its a great game, probably some music would make it better, but on the other hand it might make it worse (depends on what type of music you choose and what does each player) same thing with the background.

LuckyLollipopLad responds:

Thanks for the review!

I'll definitely play with both BG and BGM - I'm sure I'll be able to work out something that's an actual improvement.

Stay funky!

Uh...

I picked up some glitches such as going through the wall. It needs some music and sound and maybe throw in upgrades to keep people addicted. But other than that it was interesting

LuckyLollipopLad responds:

Thanks for the review.

The glitch/bug is something I just need to try and sort.

Music will be added for the final version.

Rather than upgrades, I'll play with the levels - add enemy fans and other stuff.

Stay funkY!

Good game

+ Fan effect was good
+ Interesting interaction with starry blocks, I got stuck amongst them sometimes, even pushing right through once. I found I got stuck to them on level 6, which was challenging
+Lots to do, building up with more challenges.

-Sound would be so good. Maybe music, with choices and more importantly, an off button for music. A fan sound would be so good and a nice roley plop sound when the 'critters' fall down the holes, or even a long, drawn out ahhhhhh! as if falling down a deep hole. A fanfare or something when you make it to the end of a level and a bad sound when you fail. You could have a rolling sound, like marbles or ball bearings on glass when the balls more.

I got to level five in a few minutes and found it easier than I expected, shooting through first time in a few seconds. THEN!
I stayed on level six for two hours (well about ten minutes!) trying again and again. twice I made a run for it with all four against the evil triangles, having somehow got past the holes, but no... I never made it!
I dont play games much, but Ive never seen one like this. the fan idea is great and I think I will recomend it to Codester, who likes this kind of thing.
Best Wishes,
Ice

LuckyLollipopLad responds:

Getting stuck/pushing through the blocks is actually an error in my coding. I'm not the most proficient coder yet.

You're totally right about the sfx. Fan sounds would totally rock, if it was subtle, with maybe altering volume based on speed...

I wanted to make sure the 7 levels culminated in a real challenge. Maybe I went too far. And playing through again, maybe 6/7 are in the wrong order.

The trick in level 6 is in circling the fan round the critters to 'round them up' before you make a quick run for it past the enemies.

Glad you enjoyed it. I'll make an effort to source suitable sfx and will continue trying to improve my level design.

Thanks again for the reviews!

Stay funky,

Another Great Version

I've been there since the start and still am.
Hi Luckylolly! It's me, Mushman. I'm back with some more help!
OK, it's late at night and I'm suposed to be in bed. but yet here I am. I see you've uped the graphics. Good to see. Now, I didn't beat the game (only level 6) so I can't give you the ending stats. but it was something like 15 deaths and 7 minutes 30 seconds.
Nice pause feature! Now, what can be improved. An easy mode and stuff would still be good. Like we discussed last time. Easy - Portal is safe and sucks critters. Normal - Portal isn't safe and doesn't suck critters. Hard - Fan death is back in the game.
Maybe a bonus level for players good enough to beat the game in, let's say 10 minutes. You've still got that skill and using it.
And another idea. Slides or slopes. Blow a critter into a slope and watch him slide to the bottom. Also, moving screen. Allows you to make bigger levels and takes the pain of getting a critter "stuck" at the bottom.
And finally, level editor. Great for those (like me) who want an extra challenge.
That's all. And I see you named it your "clever" way. V0.39 instead of V0.4. Keep 'em coming!

LuckyLollipopLad responds:

You beat level 6? Or you got to level 6?

Seems I may have made it a tad too hard...

Nice pause feature!

Thanks!

If I sorted the coding properly, those difficulty levels shouldn't be too much extra work to put in. I do really hate coding though.

10 minutes really isn't great. I can complete it in under 3. But the idea of bonus levels is definitely one I'd like to add before v1.0. Good suggestion.

Maybe I can have a few bonus levels for getting a certain time, then after that, a set of extra bonus levels if you haven't lost a life yet.

I'll try and apportion points to stuff so folk can have a high score list when this is finished.

I definitely like the idea of changing the terrain. I was thinking of having gusts of wind, but I don't know if I'll be able to draw recognisable fans from exactly side-on.

Larger levels - not too keen on that. I like the fact that when I start these levels, I can see the whole thing.

I didn't realise that getting them 'stuck' on the bottom/top was actually a problem for folk. I actually added horizontal borders, but took them out. I'll put them back in.

Level editor - would be good, but don't expect me to make it. Sorry - it's just too hard for me to code that. I don't know if I could do it.

Sad you preferred the previous 2 versions - not as good level design in your opinion? (can't think of any other reason) - but glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks for another great review!
