LOL the Amoeba Amoeba title is a bit of a joke I suppose - the backgrounds are Amoebas. It's just to give it an otherworldly setting really.

It reminds me of some older games like Tekken and Street Fighter with the 4 button setup and the blocking. I also really like the addition of counterhits and unblockables.
However, I think the actual gameplay was lacking with only a small amount of attacks for each character. I think adding in some combination inputs and directional/button inputs could have really helped make this really good. So would the additions of throws and counterhit effects.
Maybe some possible ideas for Amoeba Amoeba 2.
I also really liked the artstyle and humor. It was... interesting, to say the least.

Counters do 20% more damage...
The fighting engine reached a plateau - I could have improved the AI more but we got problems with the FLA leaking memory so in the end just had to release the game.

Okay...that was interesting.
I don't think I fully understood the concept (if there was one), but I did find the combat somewhat enjoyable.
The character art was pretty sweet, I thought. However, the background art hurt my eyes. No, seriously, the background art seriously injured my eyes...beyond repair.
Controls were all right, I guess. The "A + S + X+ Z" setup was a bit awkward in my opinion, but it still worked to a certain extent.
Anyway, funny characters (beast was awesome), nice effects and presentation, good sound, but game play got old after a while and the background art made me noxious.

This is more a piece of art than a game per se - Jon was very specific about the background composition. It's deliberately garish.
