I did a game exactly like this...
Back when I went to school, we had to make a game similar to this. I did exactly that, one in space. Except that it wasn't meteors, but missiles and you had to collect explosives so you can dive-bomb into the final boss, and if you had enough explosives, you would kill it, otherwise you were just another dumb jap =P.
Improments needed
It was a decent game in general. The brilliance of the graphics was the highlight. However, you have to notice that this kind of game has been overdone and you need to be very creative in order to get an excellent score. (3.5+) I believe that most people will get bored after playing for a while since the game is a repetitve. Making a few more levels will certainly be helpful. For example: You can make 100 stars per level. The higher the level is, the harder it becomes. Make some enemy airplanes and let them shoot you. It will be nicer if you can shoot them back. Also, adding a few bosses will also help you a lot. In all, you need to be more creative, and if you do, I believe that you will have some front page stuffs. :)
