Reviews for "Jeb City part 3"

Interesting, yet slightly confusing.

I liked this one, as it got us to the end of the serial, by looking through the way the original film was set out. A shame really, that it seemed rushed, without really taking the time to expose the plot of the whole piece, more with the idea of "let's just get to the final fight", which is something that lots of writers face at some point in their lives.

I think that you can certainly come around to a more engrossing part of the story were you to remake this today, but I won't labour that point, as there were so many things to look at there - the duck that manages to double up as an automatic weapon. Giving it the appearance of four legs seems strange, but I guess you were trying to get the wings and the feet there - surely, the feet would have been orange, like most other ducks? Still, your animating skills look to have progressed now. From reading previous reviews, you've upgraded your microphone, which is a great step forward, now it's just a case of getting it all together, with the quality, but again, something that probably comes with time.

I wonder what else you can give us over the rest of the 2006 season?

Battosai810 responds:

Oh dear lord I actually never noticed that the duck had an implied 4 feet. I guess it's a platypus then.

This really was just a way to end the story. Most noir stories (hamhanded or not) end with the hero and the villain squaring off, and one or both of them dying. I took that a little further by killing the love interest, if you can call Baby the llama that.

Hmm.

In terms of quality it was more or less the same as the second part, although in my eyes not quite as enjoyable. I felt that this was largely due to the change in humour, as it seemed a little more childish and predictable this time round (such as the falling down at the end for example).

Regarding the sound; this time I didn't notice any crackling in the dialogue, but the issue with the sound levels of the music and the dialogue being too close on occasions remained. As a result of this I couldn't make out all of the dialogue between the two guards, something which wasn't displayed on screen in text form. The banging sound effect was also too loud and completely drowned out the dialogue. I also found a few of the sound effects to be somewhat annoying and couldn't help but wish you had chosen different ones.

Once again the issue with a line on the border occurred. This time a white one during one of the scenes at the start of the flash.

Battosai810 responds:

Jebediah falling over at the end was actually a misguided attempt at drama - it's not uncommon for the hero to die in a noir story, and having him succumb to his bullet wounds after getting his revenge seemed appropriate. Of course, I was a very hamhanded Flash artist back then and wasn't terribly good at storytelling.

I'm pretty sure this cartoon was after I got my good microphone, but before I knew how to change sound quality in Flash. I guess I didn't know how to change sound levels either, because watching this again made me really notice how awful the audio mixing was.

Thanks for reviewing the whole series - it's interesting to go back and rewatch my oldest cartoons with a new state of mind.

uhhmmm..

that looked more like a platipus to me

Battosai810 responds:

One man's duck is another man's marsupial, I suppose. Glad you liked the toon.

Battosai810 responds:

Get the hype machine a rollin'.
I actually heard that Frank Miller just got the script done so it could come out in the next 2 years or so depending on what Robert Rodriguez wants to do.
Thanks for watching.

DUCKY!!!!

Great finale to a great series! Assassination via Ducky. Awesome.

Battosai810 responds:

ah, my first trilogy of cartoons... passing ones, that is.
i've been meaning to remake these, or at least do more in the sin city/jeb city style, but if i do, i'll wait for sin city 2 to come out in theaters.
