Reviews for "Gekisen card game"

Card games are unique.

This game bears a striking resemblance to Maganic Wars which was made several years ago. However given the limits of making card games in Flash, this is bound to happen.

Very well done overall, but could use more damage cards because the game becomes just a stalemate for dozens of turns often.

Very addicting

A very nice game and very addicting too. I played this game quite a lot the last couple of days, I really like strategy games like this. Still there were a few things that I didn´t liked much. The graphics, sounds and all that shit are okay. Maybe you should add some music during the battles, but that´s the only thing. It´s more about the cards.

Sometimes you can be so much better then your opponent. Like you got much more defence, offence and hazumi, but if he uses a card like "Over confidence", you can be death in one hit. Or he could use a card like thief and switch offense or defence with you. Then he suddenly has a lot of defence/offence. That annoyed me a little. Also if you are bleeding or if the opponent is regenerating, it´s almost certain that you´re gonna lose, cause you never get "medical herb" or "vorpal blade" when you need them.

One last thing, the opponent always seems to have the right cards. For example: when I increase defence/offence, he lowers it back to 0 the turn after. It´s okay if that happens when you´re at the end of the game, but that happened to me even in the beginning. You would almost say the computer is cheating.

Overall 8 out of 10, 4 out of 5. Well even though there are a few annoying things, I still like this game a lot. I hope you´ll make some more of these. Keep up the good work.

A potentially great game, but it's fatally flawed.

I really want to love this game. Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to do so because it is too frustrating to play. Why? Because the game is not balanced at all (and, honestly, it seems like the computer cheats).

The problem, as I see it, is the cards appear to be randomly doled out. There really is no "deck" that gets used up and reshuffled when playing a duel. This means that you (or, in my experience, more likely your enemy) can get lots of the same really high power cards, all possibly within a short span of time. Where is the fun when the enemy throws "Nasty Cut", "Regeneration", or "Dismemberment" multiple turns in a duel, or worse, in a row? That is seriously wrong. Those cards are incredibly powerful and should be limited to one per deck/duel.

My random-card-drawing-luck must be really bad because I get my butt handed to me almost every other duel and thus I can't seem to make it past the fricken' orange belt. It's really frustrating. Don't even get me started on the tournaments. My best so far is winning two of the six consecutive duels neeeded to succeed in a tournament. If the game were balanced maybe I'd have a chance in hell. As it stands, no way.

Also, the sheer number of cards makes many of them useless for most situations. There have been many times I have had the enemy on the ropes and I don't get any actual attack cards when (surprise surprise) he throws lots of heal or regeneration cards. Um ... is this a duel or are we just messing with our hazumi, offense and defense scores? I spend more time waiting for a useful card (or maybe even trying NOT to play one that will hurt me) than actually dueling. A discard option might be a good addition to help solve this problem. And no, waiting for a discard card is not a good solution.

Finally, I would like to point out there are still some bugs that ought to be fixed. For instance, when the enemy throws "discard 1 card", I don't get my used card replaced before my turn. When I drop the enemy defence to 0 for 1 turn, it does back to it's normal amount before I can attack, so that card is basically useless. Also, I think I have seen instances when swapping offense or defense scores didn't work right. I'm sure there are some other "math" bugs, but it's hard to keep track of all the attack/bleeding damage/regeneration going on so quickly.

All in all, this could be a really great game. I think it needs more play testing to even things out.

Oh, and if you plan to reply that you like and purposefully built the game this way, that's fine. I'll just stop trying and go play Maganic Wars instead. It's nicely balanced, IMHO.

Battle Realms

You used some of the icons from that game for you game.
(Battle Realms is a PC game for those who didn't know)

I can now see the fasciantion for these games ...

Some years back when Magic the Gathering came out I blew it off. 1) because the cards were not high contrast for sight impaired persons, and 2) why would anyone try to play game where the object was to [literally] take the OTHER PERSONS cards away from them; I guess I have high ethics.

This example of that kind of game proves to me on some levels how wrong I was and am. With the help of the computer I can see the complexities of these games and what it takes to play them. It is terribly addicting [smile].

Thank you for providing what I would call an excellent example of a 'Card Combat' game.
