Reviews for "Ultimate Pong"

Here's an idea

This is a relatively original take on an arcade game. There is however one major flaw that makes playing it frustrating rather than enjoyable, and that is that because the control is absolute, there is little one can do to manipulate the puck with any precision. However, once the AI has a hold of it, they can shoehorn it any way they please, which is very annoying. For this, I suggest if you tried either changing the physics (but the behavior seems fairly...not very...but fairly intuitive and thus realistic), or else the controls, such that it used 2 sets of directional control, maybe keyboard + mouse (one for the direction of the paddle, one for the paddle movement, as opposed to the kind of tweening motion we see here which isn't very controllable), then it'd be a ton of competitive fun.

The other thing I see is the scoring- either the script is buggy or I found it to be slightly inconsistent. You may wish to explain it somewhere or tighten the code.

Otherwise I'd say this was something fresh and if those problems were fixed, I'd dig it good.

Matadio responds:

I like the mouse and keyboard control idea, but the problem with it is that I don't like mouse controls in Flash. When you move the mouse outside of the game, it stops working, and therefore causes much chaos and confusion.

This was my first attempt with AI, and all I can say is that it did the job. The AI moves too fast, and thats the real problem. I don't want to mess with the code at this point, but the next version will be totally radically awesomely yeah!

The score works like this:
The gold trophy score is how much you recieve if you get the ball out of the arena at that time. The more you hit the puck/ball, the higher the points get. That's really all there is to it. There is no real diffrence in score as to wether you knock the puck/ball out at that time, or at a later time, so there are no combos, but I will be addin that in the future.

this sucked

i did not like this game at all it suck

Matadio responds:

You want to know something?

YOU SUCK!!
OMGWTFBBQ?

controls are counter-intuitive...

...sorry, mate, I've gotten TOO USED to using "up" as FORWARD and not actually UP -- which makes this bloody difficult. For broader appeal, I'd change that. Otherwise, looks great, can't wait until I'm able to play it without just sailing out of the arena.

At least make an easy or practice stage where you don't lose a life for going out, but just wrap around the screen.

*fingers crossed*

Thanks!

Matadio responds:

Yeah, I know the controls suck. The paddle rotates around the ball, so it's hard to make the controls that work in the normal way.

I'll try to improve.

How is this pong???

this was more robot rumble than classic atari. Good idea, but if it gets blammed, make sure you change it to mouse control.

Matadio responds:

I classify it as pong, as there are paddles and a ball. It's not a rumble, and never will be.

I tried the mouse idea before, and it didn't work very well. Mice are too hard to use.

too fucking hard

control suggestion:
up- forward
down- back
left and right- rotate
