Reviews for "4 Incomplete Games"

Perfect example of a great underdog of the week

With some work these games have the potential to get some high rankings in the flash portal. I am by no means a flash artist but it is obvious to me that in these beta games you have clear talent. With that being said, here's what I think you can do to make these high-ranking games.

I know you said you don't want to force music tastes on us but music is a key part of your flash animations. It can set the tone for any one of the games. In your Zelda style game for example, music could tell us whether its a creepy dungeon, and uptempo cave, or just someplace bright. Music can compansate for average graphics because music can tell a story and setting as well. If you can't make your own music and you don't want to use pop culture songs, go to the audio portal and look at some of the artists that work predominantly in the video game section. TritoneAngel, Paragon x9 and Stage 3-1 are artists I can think of off the top of my head that might have good stuff for you to work with.

You don't need 3D graphics or fancy looking characters. If shapes are your style then stick with them, just make them sharper and add a wider variety of colors. Look at a game called Trapped 4 on this site. It only uses shapes, but it has sharp, bright graphics, and in my opinion, that's all it needs. Take that into consideration as well when you expand these games.

Personally, I love the platformer idea and you don't need a boss but if you can implement it, then by all means do it.

The Zelda style game can also turn out to be really top-notch stuff if you add enemies and more defined graphics.

The shooter is addictive. Very addictive. With music, power ups and more aggressive enemies, this flash alone would give more more reason not to do homework that night.

The mouse game thing is always intriguing but I've seen it done a hundred times already. Work extra hard on that to make it really unique so it stands out from the rest.

Oh, and dont mistake my tone for being mean towards your flash, I love your stuff and you have great ideas. I'm only being very picky in this review because I know you have talent and that with more work you could really make a mark in newgrounds. I also noticed that in the other reviews people have given you, you have responded and you seem to be taking in the feedback people give you. I look forward to your next completed project.

I could not asked for a more helpful review. Thank you so much.

First, your right about the music. Dont tell anyone (<.< .. >.>) but I was kinda rushing to get this on the portal and figured that music wouldn't be such a huge deal. I was wrong. :P

I have checked out the audio portal, there's some really good stuff there, and I'm prolly gonna steal something from there in my next game, whatever that is.

Yes, I have seen Trapped 4, in fact, that was my inspiration for the puzzle game in the first place. I even sort of based my game's graphics off of it - well sort of.

Yeah, I think I'm going to just ditch the boss idea, at least for now. It may come back later though...

For the RPG, yeah. I could always base enemies off of platformer or something. I'm having a lot of fun playing around with ideas for it, but right now I'm up to my head in the other two games I have in production. I will come back to it though.

I'm glad you liked the shooter. At first I was worried most people were finding it boring, then I played it here and found out it really is boring until level 5+, I'm glad you had the patience to play until then.

Mousegame: Yeah your right. I'm trying to do everything that hasn't been done before (okay, not exactly that) but still, I'm trying to make it pretty unique. I want to make it tough, but with accuracy playing a factor its pretty hard to draw a proper line between fun and impossible.

Believe me I don't find your review mean in the least, this is the most helpful review I've ever gotten! Thanks a ton, I'm definitely going to be following your advice in my next games! :)

Not bad.

The best part about these games is that they were all pretty original. There aren't many games like these on NG. The platformer and the shooter were very original and I would have liked to see finished. The other two were alright, but nothing special. You should definitely finish atleast those two and resubmit them. The graphics weren't that great in any game, they were mostly hand drawn, but the game play makes up for it. This could definitely use some funky music in it. Overall, nice job on the games even though they aren't finished.

johnfn responds:

Don't you worry about the graphics, I've got a 3D animator guy helping me out :D

Yeah, I'll probably finish shooter, then mousegame because so many people loved it, then I might go on to platformer and ditch the whole boss idea and move on. Thanks for the review.

platform rocked :D

out of all the games i've played, an unfinished one is one of my favorites. i'm putting this on my favorites. i NEED to see platform with more levels and harder enemys.
i could help if i had flash... :(. this is a great game.

johnfn responds:

Thanks a lot :) I'll see what I can do.

not the best

well nice idea but I can think of lots of other people who could of made made it better my fave was the mouse game the puzzle one was crap shooting one was just a rip off (of everthing) and the platform one was so crap i played it for 2 seconds nice try but it really sucked

johnfn responds:

Thanks for the 1 point for mouse game, really I think you should have given them more of a chance (2 seconds? common) but I can't really stop you now can I?

Umm....

Well i guess i can see why this is the underdog of the week

johnfn responds:

Thanks for the informative feedback, well not really. I'd like to know why you hated it though.
