Strange Addition to the Side-Scrolling Genre
Say to someone "hey I played a game on NG it's called Gunrun it was pretty good you should try" when they reply "what it is?" don't be surprised if they walk off tutting to go and have a fag when you reply "running side scrolling shoot-em' up". This is probably because this description makes Gunrun sound less orginal than Fish N' Chips on Friday Night. Let's face it, the genre hasn't been filled with that StickRPG or Ultimate Flash Sonic game to make it stand out. Basically, it's either crap and clitchy or annoying and overrated (ahem...Super Mario Rampage..Hey! Is the sequel out yet? I want to laugh more..).
The above comments do not apply to Gunrun, why? Well it's faster than most of the genre, it's slicker, you actually need to look at the screen while playing it rather than picking up your left hand after banging the space bar for half an hour.
Gunrun features extra stuff which to my knowledge, has never been done before, such as double-jumping, which is what the space bar does, the mouse shoots. Don't panic it's surprisingly easy to use so you won't have problems killing those mecha crocs. That's also what makes this good, you have to, as the game gets harder, shoot walking crocs, flying crocs, jumping crocs, flying crocs that fire spikey discs at you and giant spikey discs rolling around, and more, inculding bosses every twenty levels.
So, don't use the sentence at the top of the review to advertise Gunrun to your friends, since it doesn't do it any justice.
