Some of the best programming ever seen in a flash

To begin, I have to tell you I'm being slightly generous because I didn't have the tenacity to go through the entire game. What I did see, however, was great! The controls were a cross between Space Invaders and Asteroids without the aggrivation. There was also something original thrown in there I couldn't put my finger on. As far as flash games go, this was outstanding. The art and animation seemed pretty lame but your programming skill made up for it. I've never seen any kind of AI really used in a game (not well, anyway) but lo and behold, my friends fly out in front of me and throw a volley of shots without being completely useless! The backgrounds are busy with action and don't make me feel alone in the universe with nothing better to do than fire random scrolling enemies. There's a full scale galactic war going on around me. The perspective was cool but when I saw those two ships fighting close to the camera, they were still under me and because of the perspective, it just looked like a really big pair of ships. However, you put a lot of effort into this and I hope you continue to improve on your already tremendous flash programming skill and creativity. Next time, just try to get some more interesting visuals... It's easier to appreciate.

Wheee*l4g*eeee!!!!

For certain enemies, after I blow them up, the game freezes for a split second. This caused me great headaches in Sa Mantra where my ship would just drive itself into the walls (yes I tried low quality but it's just as bad) and sometimes when there were masses of bullets flying everywhere. Maybe you should work on bandwith conservation.

I applaud your attempt at making a game styled by Tyrian, but I suppose the file size limit for newgrounds just didn't work for you. At least you got the shop part down quite nicely. I don't remember the storyline however, all I remember was that the final level was a bunch of flying fruit (?)

Something that seriously bothered me was the name of the 2nd planet. Is it Liberty or Dune or both?

I adressed it in the new ver 1.2. Check it out after some days.

A few minor flaws, but it is still very awesome.

I like it. I noted a few things off about it, but eh, so what.

I really enjoy the game. however, If you're going to update the game, I have one or two pointers.

1) make it so that dialogue only stops you from shooting. I've had a few occasions where I've gone through a wave of ships and am collecting the loot when suddenly, someone talks to me. I am unable to move, and about 5-10 coins go off the bottom of the screen before I can click the little green button, and get back to flying.

2) You may want to be more forgiving about damage when it comes to ship-ship collisions. It's kind of frustrating when you just bump a ship and WHAM! Game Over- You suck. maybe if you could come up with something where your ship takes damage equal to the other ships remaining life points and the other ship dies, that would be better.

Anyways, I'm well aware that my comments mean diddly-squat in the long run. So seel free to take my note, and throw it in the fireplace, for all I care.

Not bad, but has some rough points

I was kind of inclined to close the game when I died twice within the first 3 seconds of the game from those instant kill explosions, but I gave it a chance. I'm glad I did, because the game isn't bad. I don't regret playing it, and there's a decent amount of potential here. However, there are some key problems that should be addressed. Firstly, there's a bug where my score and money turned to NaN, so I was able to buy the best upgrade and ship by the second level since there was no limit to my money anymore. That's the big one. Smaller problems include enemies shooting at you from offscreen on the sides. Shouldn't really be allowed to happen. Also, your dark lord with the eyeball should probably speak a little more ominously. "Ooooh, what's this? A resistence?" sounds like something a bratty twelve year old would say, rather than a feared ruler.
Some of the sounds were a little bit annoying, but that's inevitable in a space shooter. Overall, the sound was well chosen and managed.
You should team up with a skilled artist to really bring the cutscenes to life. A scripter shouldn't have a hard time finding one.
An overall scoring of seven may sound harsh, but I don't throw around high scores, so it should be taken as more of a positive than a negative.

sspecter responds:

Strange. That 'NaN' score bug escaped our testing here. Ill check it.

Thanks for your review. Usefull reviews are the most apreciated. :)

it's not bad

it's not a bad game it'd just it's an old style game i played on my gameboy 10 years ago. the sound get annoying after a while. and the first boss is very easy. i say it's a good game.
