Bravo
Here he comes, the unofficial NG critical reviewer, reviewing his first animé.
Let's get jiggy.
Graphics are a nine. The animé style was flawlessly obeyed and fun to watch, though I have to admit, I dislike the elimination of backdrops in favor of flashing lights and black bars. I'm aware it's a popular animé technique, but it's just jarring to go from quality art to something MTV would throw at a music video to give it more "Flashy Appeal".
Style is a definite ten, something hard to get from me. I don't care much for Japanese cartoons [or any, really], but I enjoyed this one, partially because of Mega Man fanboy-ness, but also because of the great action sequences. Also, after watching VS Gemini Man, I saw and appreciated the fact that your villains seem to have very different styles of fighting, that is, Gemini Man would rely on the advantages of a clone [one to attack, one to divert] and his multi-purpose gun. Snake Man was a more calculative villain; he started with hand-to-hand but, seeing that Mega Man was faster than he, decided to use his Search Snakes and fight in a truly villainous 'kick 'em while they're done' [/Richard Nixon circa Futurama] style. I loved it.
Sound was an eight. Something about Mega Man's voice bothered me, as in the other. The music, Snake Man's evil laughter, and the SFX were great, though.
Violence -- a ten, for reasons I've probably already stated, so I'll save space.
No interactivity. I couldn't give less of a shit.
Humor--the flashback was a nice surprise, heh. Humor isn't necessary in these, though.
I look forward to seeing Mega Man versus Shadow Man... after all, Shadow Man fights like Bullseye, who is a fun villain to watch. It will be great to see the hand-to-hand you'll give us there, as well as Mega Man narrowly dodging shuriken. ;)
Gravity Man and Gyro Man would, also, be fantastic. Plenty of creative possibility there. Well done.
