Reviews for "Novus Vitae"

Marbles

This song is something I'd like to hear in a Marble blast ultra game.

Most of it is very well made. But it has those "Calm" spaces, that are just plain boring.

advice from a pro

your kick is good, very well-placed. that was your best instrument in this whole mix.

your leads were also good, but they interfered with your hi-hats a little. EQ the hi-hats to fix this. either that, or compress your leads a little, they should be most powerful in the high mids. (3Khz for best clarity).

raw high hats are usually too bright, especially with vengeance samples. don't be afraid to kill even the high-mids of a high hat. lower the treble afterwards, though.

i seriously don't agree with the song structure. some parts were very well done. the intro was the best part by far. it was all smooth up until about 1:10. you needed a massive change there, but you didn't do it. another disappointment was 1:39. that just didn't work at all for me.

bass is actually very cute, but massively shrouded. remember: bass covers bass. it shouldn't mess up any midtone harmonics. unless you have a harmonic exciter tool, this is trouble. make sure you somehow push your bass farther into the bass frequencies. then compress it so it responds well to the kick.

these are my main picks at this song. this is a LOT better than most on newgrounds.

don't be alarmed by the 6 score. i gave you a 5 on my vote.

Thanks for the quality review! I appreciate it.

I completely agree with the EQ bits - I had a lot of trouble finding out what I wanted to do with this song back when I was still editing it, and since then i've come to do quite a lot of the techniques you've mentioned above.

Again, thanks for the review, and i'll add you on MSN!
