Make the number of items less.
Graphics: Very well-drawn and animated game.
Style: You assumed that people could sit through a long period of time and not get bored, bad assumption.
Sound: Nice and suitible for the game.
500 items is too lengthy for anyone to go through in one sitting. Either put a pause button, or lower the time limit. Also, add more levels, and make it harder. Maybe have different intems falling from the sky.

in fact there are a lot of things that was pretty good for a first serious game.
one of the flaws in the design is that you can just keep going until you the gun runs out of ammo. and if you can make some sort of hi-score tracker, you'll have people just dying to keep trying to get a high score

I suggest you change the Zaphoids to equal -5 instead though... when you stare at the screen long enough, they look the same....
But the game was fine overall. good job. =)
