Reviews for "The Stairway"

Surreal.

Interesting to say the least. I don't know if I caught any symbolism, but it did make me wonder if Andy Warhol or Salvador Dali would get blammed here.

Cyrus-Dragon responds:

The entire movie is symbolism. The only thing that doesn't play a role in the symbolism, is the survey, which is meant to portray an idea.

There is a fine line between art and crap.

Sadly, you crossed it. I won't simply say "This is junk" for the fun of it, though. I'll be happy to explain:

First off, symbolism is well and good, but if you are going to present your work to a wider audience like Newgrounds, you had best be ready to have a far less esoteric set of icons in mind before throwing them altogether. There is something to be said for being intelligent and artistic, true...but that was not what we had here. More than anything, you hid behind your so-called symbolism as a means of refusing to take any responsibility for the outcome of your work.

Second, unless terrible animation is a symbol that you were trying to convey, there is little excuse for how little effort was put into the animation itself.

Third, Room of Angel from Silent Hill 4 is an awesome piece of music, with more real symbolism than your movie was capable of portraying. I resent the fact that it was added to a flash animation that more than likely took you little more than a day or two to make, tops. The people who wrote that song (mainly Melissa Williams) put a lot of thought into that piece which you most likely included simply because it sounded spooky.

There is nothing deep or artistic about this piece. This is a bit of self-aggrandizement that holds as much meaning as tripe like Bubble Love or any other Blam-worthy junk.

Cyrus-Dragon responds:

Seeing as you put your post in points, I shall respond to it, in points.

First: You're obviously pretending that you know everything about symbolism, which is contradictory to the meaning of symbolism in the first place. Symbolism is meant to make the viewer/reader (depending on what the symbolism is in) think about what is really being said. It's not a one-way track. And I wasn't hiding behind any symbolism, I was making a movie out of it, to which you obviously don't get.

Second: It's called abstract art, and the animation is meant to have an artistic style to it. STYLE. You know, that thing that you people seem to ignore quite commonly.

Third: The use of that song was meant to contribute to the theme of the song, and was moreover just background music. It wasn't meant to be in competition with the symbolism.

Last comment: Look at that, after all your explanations about how you apparently know a lot about symbolism, and you didn't get a single thing out of my movie. Wow, so much for your insight skills.

This is ok,

Not everyone can get even some of your symbolism. To be honest it's not that clear to me either. And your artwork by itself doesn't hold up as eye candy. To really make a successful flash in this style your visuals have to be stunning so the people who aren't all that deep can like it too. Keep up the work tho, you're on to something.

Cyrus-Dragon responds:

The whole point of this movie was to make viewers actually think about what they're watching. Thus, I purposely gave it a look/style that is different from the average flash. Anyone unwilling to think about something because of how it looks is beyond possible hope. However, you seem to be on the clinging edge. Perhaps if you watch it some more and try to think of what it means, maybe you'll catch on.

heh

Looks like the dude was doing LSD when he tryed to walk up some stairs. =(

Cyrus-Dragon responds:

What is it with people and thinking that everything is related to drugs if things change at all like that? It's called abstract art.

Stop with tweening

First of all, the character wasn't well drawn. This sort of thing usually determines for about 90% if a person is willing to actually fully watch it instead of giving it a 0 right away. And the tweening was amateuristic. You CAN'T tween properly if there is more that one MC (movieclip) on a layer (doesn't necessarily have to be a MC, but it usually is).

Cyrus-Dragon responds:

There were hardly any tweens in the movie, yet you pick them out as your only source of comment... well, looks like the entire movie's meaning was lost again to another materialistic moron.
