Reviews for "MH16: Hopes And Dreams"

Cool...

I like it a lot. You have a nice balance with all the instruments. Very nice job mixing overall. And the melody lines are really interesting.

I like the choice of flute as for the melody lines. It has a very nice sound to it overall, and really creates a nice point of focus for the song. You might think about changing it to an oboe in one or two sections for a dramatic effect. Just an idea.

I like the harmonies created with the strings. You did well to create a nice and warm atmosphere with them. I personally think you could put some larger reverb on the strings. Maybe make them sound like they are in a cathedral or something. It might work, might not. Just a thought.

The one thing I don't like is the drums. It sound like you used a typical drum kit from a rock band. The exception being the concert bass drum you are using. It sounds good. But the rest really sounds like a kit, and I'm not really fond of that in these types of songs. Seems a little to classical for a regular old drum kit.

You might think about a french horn line somewhere. If there is one thing I've learned about composing, it's that you can never go wrong with a french horn in the mix. By far the most beautiful sounding instrument in the world. I think it would add some nice color to this song.

4/5 and 8/10 overall. I really like it a lot, but I do think it has a kink or two to work out.

Great job here bud!

Thanks for this review!
It's critical, but very honest and helpful :-)
I'll try to do those things you said, but tomorrow. I'm going to sleep now :P

Very good!

I liked the variation of instruments used in this, also very nice drum beats. The flute (I think...) added a nice energetic touch to it, and I enjoyed this song a lot. Very medieval as blackattack said. Very nice song, this would go well in a video game soundtrack! Keep up the great work :D

10/10.
5/5.

I like how you use a slightly altered...

version of the A minor scale. The funniest thing about that is if you change just one note in that scale, this song has a completely different feel to it. Right now, it feels midieval and energetic while also slightly cheerful. The perfect song for an adventure, actually.

What I like about this piece is the articulations of the woodwinds and the drumbeat. And the cello staccatos blend well into the background and enhance the melody well.

Yes, I'd probably say that this is one of your best pieces, if not your best. But with you improving every time I see you, it's hard to say that definitively.

So far, the only thing I can say at this moment is to add just a slight bit more variation to your piece. Just a slight bit and you should be good. Cuz there is a significant amount of variation in this piece, but since the chords remain the same thoughout, you're now forced with the task of compensating for that, which you've done quite well, I have to say.

Everything else about this piece is perfect in my book. Great instrument choice, great melodies, great in general. I'm favoriting this jawnpiece.

BTW, could you do me a favor and check out my newest WIP, cumulonimbus? If you're wondering about the name, you'll have to check it out to see (:^P

FairSquare responds:

Lol, i didn't even know i used that scale. I know nothing about scales and stuff :P
Thanks for the compliment about me improving :D
And i don't really know how to change chords :S
Really thanks for your review and for the favourite!
I'll check out your new WIP now.
