Reviews for "- Forest of Wonder -"

Very cool.

This is ballsy. I'm glad your work is sought after. The one thing about area-specific songs for games I find a shame is that it means they play so much and the responder is desensitized to it and it loses value, OR it gets stuck in their brain for all eternity. Don't know how yours will go. But I love it.

SinJim responds:

Thanks for the review! Hopefully it will be the latter. I'd rather have it not forgotten, but who knows.

Oooh... n_n

[Sayonji]: Gosh, I wish I knew more about music, because I love giving people constructive criticism... Unfortunately, I lack the knowledge, so I'm not qualified to critique. I'm just a fan. xD This really does sound like a great Forest Zone level song! I totally wouldn't mind having to level up in this forest for a few hours if this was the music I got to listen to. xD It's very neat! One of the main instruments reminds me of Zelda, in the beginning. O_O I really enjoyed the sort of "plucky" instrument you were using - it made some parts sound mischevious. xD I could hear the little silence that interupted the loop, though. I hope you're able to find a way to fix it, so the game developer will be satisfied with the final product! n___n Really cool, SinJim-sir!

SinJim responds:

Thanks so much for the review. The heartfelt words are greatly appreciated. I'm glad you liked this. The instruments that were plucking in the beginning (and end) were Violins and Cellos actually. Definitely there for the reason mentioned, I'm glad you got the feeling I was going for.

On a side note, the game has a graphical feel VERY reminiscent of the SNES Zelda (Link to the Past I think is the right one). Definitely tried to take some inspiration from that.

Thanks again, your reviews are always appreciated.

Review

Here we go. I am good person to have for your first review by the way.
1. The loop worked well, I couldnt spot it.
2. Congrats on getting your music in a game. I can defiantly feel the forest theme you were speaking of.
3. The medieval you were speaking of was nice but I think a little more baroque would help and make it sound very good.
4. The crashes were timed well and fit in. Maybe you could add a little more bass to the drums for feeling though.

SinJim responds:

Ooh, a constructive review. Oh how rare these are.

Thanks for the review, I really appreciate it. Yes, it is a big move for me to start composing for games. I think, though, that it's time I get this experience under my belt.

I'm glad you couldn't spot the loop gap. Maybe I'm just really nitpicking there as it is rather small.

I'll take a look into some baroque stuff because I know I've listened to it; however, I'm not able to immediately recall the qualities that make that period unique. I'll do the research though and take your comments into account :).

I'll think about adding some more bass in. I tend to overcompensate since my headphones and surround system both respond overly well to lower frequencies haha.

Thanks again!
