Reviews for "Jumping into action"

i love this but...Why he lifts his right arm and then hits with his left one?

Ok, let's seeee.....

Launch is good! Lots of energy! Red seems to be your "danger" color, so letting his eye create a red light trace is a great communication and a lovely way to kinda empower the player!

The float has a great airy feel to it. You've got a talent for clothes! The coat feels like it's catching more air the the body inside it which is a great setup to the sudden CRASH that comes after. I have one critique at the end point there though and that his right hand rises up for just one frame and it seems really prominent, but then in the follow-up crash he lands a punch with his left which confuses my brain a bit.

The crash! This looks great! That's a LOT of impact, which it should feel like with that much setup! You've got him really leaning into it, which just has all the trademark comic and animation style OOMPH behind it. The fist being backed up by the body seemingly dragging behind it. Real choice design. Love it. I also love how rapidly he descends. Even faster than the rise up! It really communicates that something extraordinary is going on. One of those "blink and you'll miss it moments". I like that you also used the clang and woosh effects I described in the last one. It's great visual consistency.

The wind down! Very first frame, the freeze, bothers me a bit. Don't get me wrong, I think freezing the animation a bit is a GREAT IDEA, as it really sells the moment. But it feels odd with the resulting follow-through. Which is also great! I'll go into more detail on it in a bit, but it pairs... a bit oddly? Maybe? I don't know, it was an initial reaction, but the more I watch it the less I notice it. Maybe have him drop his gun a frame later? Or maybe just pause the animation for another frame? I don't know. I've never animated a thing so I'm no expert.

The wind down PT. 2! I love the flourish! The spin just drips that "Badasses don't look at explosions" vibe, and his opponent ragdolling like it does just feels good. While I don't believe a real body would ragdoll that way, it actually works to sell the whole thing immensely well. The slide effects are nice, and our guy (Viktor, right?) having that shrouded face as the breath trails from him is just *chef's kiss*. Good stuff!

This is seriously, seriously good stuff that really demonstrates your skill as an animator and artist. Forms are really good, it feels like it's actually in its environment which is excellent since it lacks environmental effects (that's gonna go a long way!), and, it just wows on so many levels. I know I had some nit-picks but that's only because this is so worth looking at in such detail.

Ioruko responds:

Ah thank you so much for this essay (I can only think of this word, I am amazed!), I am very humbled and flattered to receive such a great review!
I see that you paid very close attention to everything that was going on and I see your points are all reasonable and will definitely be considered next time I endeavor to create a complex animation like this.
There is always space for improvement and I appreciate your efforts to help me in this process!

damn that guy is so dead

You can really feel the impact in this one.
