Reviews for "[ Death ]"

Interesting...

Nice flash, though the morphing concept insn't anything new these days. Good point tohugh is that this one has a theme. A bad point is that encouraging suicide isn't the best morale to put in cartoons...

continuing the discussion of death...

saying that suicide is an act of courage is going to be missinterpretted by the vastest majority of people who view this submission. Suicide is most often seen as an act of ultimate desperation, not one of stalwart bravado...there are more ergonomic ways to drastically change your life than simply ending it...suicide doesn't offer any sort of control (if you believe in some sort of afterlife), or show any initiative to work towards a better life. It simply halts us where we stand. Suicide, amongst other things, is a very selfcentered, if not overtly selfish choice that some people make...while it takes a great deal of determination to override the natural inclination to live, it seems fairly obvious that the emotion surrounding the decision is "I can't take this anymore...", rather than "this is gonna be difficult, but by gad, I'm gonna do it!"
Secondly, and more to the point....the last image of your piece, being offered a second chance after death, is unfortunate. Playing on largely christian (the rose, being swathed in white clothing, bright light, etc.) afterlife themes to promote suicide...yeah? Maybe...I don't really know...haven't died yet (to my knowledge)

DrDeath2k3 responds:

I didnt intend on bringing up religion in this. The rose is being bloomed because life for a life. The person dies and new life is born (The rose being bloomed, representing new life)

Aieeee...

...not another bloody morphing cartoon lol! Anyway, sticking to the point, I didn't like this. It felt disjointed and it was a tiny screen - Also, it tried to merge about 4 different styles - Love, peace, death, worldly goodness...It seemed all a bit wrong.

longer/more detailed would have been better

Overall, the flash could be improved by making it longer so as to
more fully express/clarify the idea(s) behind it. Suicide is a
complcated issue.

It's overly simplistic to say that suicide is either an act of courage
or "the coward's way out". Death is inevitable, yes, but since
nobody can really prove what, if anything, is waiting beyond the
grave, it's not really prudent to suicide unless one is quite certain
that all the other options are unacceptable. It's not a question of
being stronger than everyone else but whether a person believes
hir own life is worth continuing or not. As near as i can tell, folks
who say suicide is a sign of weakness have never actually
experienced the ambivalence of being strongly suicidal, and so
they don't really understand the resolve that's required to actually
go through with it.

If i were to attempt to improve upon this flash,
i'd try to convey the strong ambivalence that a suicidal person
feels both before and sometime even during the process of
dying. You've expressed the hope that there is something better
beyond life, but without expressing the conflict that led up to
someone killing hirself, it's very hard to avoid giving the overall
impression that this is a glorification of the event. If we really
are the captains of our own fates, then it is as much our
perogative to suicide as to carry on with life, but that does not
make suicide an especially happy thing. Know what i'm saying?

DrDeath2k3 responds:

....yes!

You couldnt be any more wrong

How can suicide make you stronger than anyone else? You gotta think of the guys reletives, friends etc. How would they feel that someone who they loved has just killed themselves? suicide is a selfish thing, and the familys of those who do it are strongest, for they have to accept theyre huge loss and try to move on

DrDeath2k3 responds:

I AM NOT ENCOURAGING IT! What I meant is that it takes a lot of courage!
