Reviews for "Drops of Life"

Ice track

When i was online i was already tired and then i came to the site , heard this and fell asleep! no jokin! Ice job, keep it 2x platium!

Gillenium responds:

I've always aspired to make music that acts as a natural sedative! Well, with ambient stuff anyway. Thanks for the review.

WOW!

The only bad thing about this track is that it is about 15 minutes too short!! Seriously, I could listen to this track for hours. Brilliant!!

Gillenium responds:

Haha. 15 more minutes? You're getting into Underworld-length now. There's no way I could find a melody catchy enough to go that long and compete with Rick Smith from Underworld. I'm glad you liked it, though! Thanks for the review.

Sweet

Sweet. It's definately going on my favorites. Oh yeah, and the 15 minutes? That's way too long. The tune has a sweetly slow paced transition. Makes you think. Nice

JTbluefire's score: 5/5
JTbluefire's comments: How can you do that? What programs do you use for the effects and clear sound? Did inspiration really help you make this tune? How can you even think of a tune? I've been trying for years and all I can think of is a cool beat!

Gillenium responds:

Wow! So much to reply to on this review... where to begin.

Ok, well thanks for the review first of all. Now I'll answer your questions in order -
The programs I used for this song were Adobe Audition (it was Cool Edit Pro back then, I believe) and FL Studio. I still use both programs, but I also use Ableton Live for my new stuff. As far as clear sound goes, I just hunt around for synths or samples that fit the song I'm working on. If I can't find any, I make some myself. Although, I find it strange that you brought up clarity for this song, because I think the beauty of the melody here comes from how crappy one of the synths sounds. It sounds more organic if there's a little static.

Inspiration... come to think of it, I can't remember what inspired me to make this piece. It has been a while... I lost all of the song files from this era and before it, so I couldn't investigate that way. Sometimes I name files after what the inspiration for the song is - for example: for my song November Butterfly, before it ever had a title, I named the drum files "butterflydrums." The title pretty much grew through that.

How can I think of a tune? I don't! I don't think I've ever thought up a tune, made it, and released it. My whole process centers around experimentation. I get into the music program, hunt around and find some sounds I like, and then I just mess around. Eventually, I'll find a melody. Sometimes, I can start with just two notes, then I build and build and harmonize and structure, and wa-la - a song is born. I seem to take naturally to harmonization with elements already in place, but if you asked me to think up a song... I could probably never do it. There's a reason for that, I think. For every song I've tried to "think up" myself, I sit back and think "..Have I heard this song before?" and the answer is almost always yes. I listen to too much stuff to have an original melody of my own, it seems. Whenever I stumble upon a melody by experimentation, however, I never have this problem.

That was fun to answer! Thanks

respect and i love it :D

Gillenium responds:
