It looks okay, but, no points whatsoever for originality. There's not a damn thing that will beat Randy Solem's MvS movie, so people just need to quit trying...

Definitely looks good. As you said, the whole Sonic VS Mario premise is a little worn, but I think this can go places.
Try and add a little more *unf* into the violence, though. Remember, these are the champions of Nintendo and Sega going head-to-head.
