Reviews for "Pseudoepic"

Great! :P

I love your style! One of the only thing that broke it was the start, but i got surprised later in the song and i already downloaded it:D it sure should have a better position in the charts! It made my day :D
Keep it up!

I seem to underestimate the importance of good intros a lot ^^ Thanks for listening to the whole thing and also for the review of course :)

Entirely appropriate.

NG doesn't have a "Breaks" or "breakbeat" category, so we've kind of accepted this kind of thing here.

That being said, this is an extrordanarilly good production. You yourself and other reviewers mention oddities about the transitions and structure of this track, but I think you really did just "feel" how it should go, and it works well. The drops, buildups, and overall structure are more organic than the planned-and-expected norm of EDM.

This took talent, you should be very proud!

DukeLukeProd responds:

Wow thanks mate, that review made my day! I'm especially glad that there's someone out there who likes my transitions ;)
Thanks for the favs too!

Review

I agree with the past review. The beginning was a bit strange. It got pretty good as the song progressed. Here is my break down.

Good:

1) 18 secs in, I really like this happy part. It's almost like some radio edit or something. The filters you chose were nice and airy here.

2) 45 sec in, a great transition. Right into the bass. This sounds a bit epic....good title too.

3) For some reason I'm feeling gunstar heroes sega genesis music here. I loved that game so I suppose I would love this song too. That lead high pitch instrument is almost the exact replica of the instrument in gunstar heroes.

4) The drums were interesting. I notice a lot of NG dnb artists use that same fruity loops dnb drum loop. It is refreshing to here some new drum patterns.

5) Nice filter modulations and delay on the bass.

Hmm:
1) Besides the beginning, there were a few ackward parts. Example: 1:19 the transition was a bit too sudden. Maybe because the bass was such a big presence in this song that taking it away too quickly made a weird moment. 2:13 Okay, so I see your doing some crazy panning drums. I like it, but I think different drums might have been better....pattern good.....drum sound not so good.

2) This is going to be a issue for the both of us. I'm the one that likes continually changing music while you like the more repetitive/return to a similar beat. I think this song is a nice adventure music, but it is like a video game loop therefore a bit repetitive for me. My opinion of course. Continue with your style.

I liked this song. Too bad not many ppl get to hear it. I like this tempo of music....too many ppl on NG like fast music so I suppose this song may never reach top 5 though I do think it deserves it compared to the top 5 songs I generally here. 5/5 vote and 9/10 review.

No idea what conjure ones and royksopp's is.

Bye for now

DukeLukeProd responds:

Hey,
I clearly have to work on my song structures, I probably think too much instead of trying to feel what's right. Ah yes and remember not to use sidechaining like I did here - trigger: Kick, target:snare

Good
1) The filters are from the free "Izotope Vinyl" lowfi plugin, go check it out ;)

3) I've never heard of gunstar heroes but being on sega genesis it probably sounds awesome. Pure coincidence that I made the same sound :D

4) Not too long ago I despised music with loops in general because it's so much cheaper than programming drums on your own. But recently I've noticed how much the latter actually slowed me down, thus I threw in a few loops and suddenly producing was a lot more fun. Yet the only kinds of loops I'll ever use are hihats and percs, I want to retain the freedom of placing my kicks and snares where I want them.
Although I must say that the drumpattern in this track is anything but new, just different samples ;)

Hmm
1) I know what you mean, it makes the track seem like a megamix instead of a single piece.
2:13 Yeah I'm a bongo/conga fetishist, I've to have them everywhere, no matter if appropriate or not ^^

2) You're much better at doing your own thing, I'm the more commercial-influenced producer.

Music-portals hardly ever have objective rankings, but that's just how it is, the best an artist can hope for are helpful comments like yours, thanks mate!

I think you'd enjoy Röyksopp, very varied style, very different. Conjure One might be too relaxed for your taste.

Cheers!

Nice

Sure, It's not DnB, but epic anyway :D

DukeLukeProd responds:

What? no, your winamp must've been playing something else while you were visiting this site, check again!! :o

ok, I'll cut the crap

Thanks a lot, I really wasn't expecting that kind of feedback! :)
