An accident like this (I doubt it happened the way it was shown) could be caused by anything, alcohol, any other drugs, basicly anything that draws the attention of the driver, for example a the person next to him...

You didn't metion how they were drinking, pot is probably bad for your lungs but it doesn't impair your judgement. If it did then I and all of Las Vegas would have died in car crashes.
