Reviews for "Belit's Gallows"

Actually uplifting

Sorry, but this isn't very sorrowful. It's too uplifting and upbeat in my opinion. The vague story I get is something like this:

A poor man has been let down time and time, his dreams shattered long ago. He works from till dusk working a low paying job he loaths simply to make ends meet, but he always manages to somehow provide for his family. He works to live and lives to work in a viscious cycle of dissapointments and let downs. Yet he still holds hope for a brighter tomorrow. His resolute attitude carries him onward, and he knows that he shall triumph in the end!

It sounds cheesy and generic, but that is the jist of what I hear. I felt really uplifted in the end, which is great! It's not so great for a sad themed contest, however.

As far as the actual music, it was quite enjoyable. The acoustic guitar was simple but effective, as was the bass. The melody was easy to follow and the chords were very uplifting. They really gave a feel of determination in the midst of much pain. I can't stand the sampled instruments, though. The strings especially are annoying. There are tons of free soundfonts that you may be able to use with your software.

Good job, but not sad. :P

SWiTCH responds:

The story you described sounds sad to me! And uplifting, yeah.
But yeah thanks.
The sampled cello (or whatever it was) does sound pretty crap I agree!

Good job

You did a good job achieve everything you said that you wanted in your commentary. Although, to be honest I think this is definately more of an uplifting piece then a depressing one. Great choice of instrumentation - it sort of reminded me of the soundtrack to "Little Miss Sunshine" in the beginning.

Although the guitars were good and they were better then most synthesized guitars - I felt like they had no emotion. This is most likely only me however due to my love for the guitar and my belief that guitars should always be brimming with emotion. I'm sure no one else will have criticism with them =)

Good melodies and chord progressions. Everything flowed quite nicely and had a place to go.

You have some beautiful harmonies happening all throughout the song. If you had lyrics and a powerful voice to sing them I think this song could be very powerful.

Good job, and good luck.

SWiTCH responds:

Well the theme was "sad" not depressing. I think something can be uplifting and sad at the same time!
Like... A funeral which is a somber occasion, but also a celebration of the persons life.
That's the feeling I get from this song anyway.
Thanks for the critique. :)

Also the guitars weren't synthesized if that's what you meant.
