Reviews for "Hope is a good thing."

You are not a unique and beautiful snowflake

Seriously, you are not your fucking khakis.

Very nice

and by very nice I mean totally sweet. That was a very inspiring flash and the music was placed so well throughout. That song is one of the reasons I love Edward Scissorhands so much. Im glad that you made it and I HOPE that you continue on and make many more.

*tear*

that was buitiful, now thats a classic

As always...

... this movie nicely illustrates what will happen on Newgrounds once somebody dares to address topics which aren't in the line of the childish gibberish or sentiments of profound coolness that more often than not seem to be the driving force behind submissions. While there might be technical points to discuss about this submission, the thing that makes it important and stand out from the rest is the willingness to give consideration to a term that is almost entirely absent not only from Newgrounds submissions, but from public discourse at large. Reclaiming some of that discursive ground is not a question of originality, but of courage and necessity. And if this flash goes to make people think about the meaning of this term, and its importance to their everyday life, I think it will have achieved much more than most of the entertainment oriented submissions on this site - especially if the concept of hope is able to leave behind the confines of ego-centered ideas of a brighter future and to reach out to other persons in the social proximity of the viewer. And yes - this is very difficult to achieve, due mainly to the exact same accusations of Hollywood sentimentalism that have already been voiced by some critics. Viewed against the background of the 200th anniversary of Kant's death last Thursday the message of "sapere aude" has lost none of its relevance. For those willing to probe deeper into the subject, try reading Ernst Bloch's "The Principle of Hope", maybe the most important book on the topic.

Thanks to the author for this submission. And thanks to LeatherQueen for a well written review, another thing seldom found here.
