Good...

Well I am a film student and let me give you some advice for your next video project. First of all SHOOT IN DIGITAL. A decent DV camera will run you $400 now which is worth the expense. I also don't know what editing system you use, but it would be extremely beneficial to get Final Cut Pro (with a G4 if you have deep pockets) coupled with a panasonic monitor and SVHS VCR.

Now, shooting. Again I don't know what the original quality of the movie was, but I could barely tell what types of cars were "racing". You should have done more speedometer cuts. You had one of the revving which looked good, but you didn't get the RPMs very high. You should, unless your car has a rev limiter, peak the RPMs into red zone to get a full dramatic effect. Also, the cut-to of the person in the car i felt was unnecessary. First it shows the kid is only a teenager - it gives the whole thing less of an air of seriousness and such - plus the idea of the mysteriousness of not knowing whos driving is great.

You should also definately stay with one theme. The first project I entered into a competition (an intro for a sports program on cable tv) lost because it wasn't "focused" enough. Something that may work in the future is pstaying with the racing theme. That way instead of wasting precious seconds with the person on the hood, you could get more racing shots (behind-car, above-cars, in-car). Also vary your shots more. Find a rooftop to shoot from as the cars pass (you can have 200 takes if you need to).

I have more advice but I am tired of typing. Take it easy. Good overall Flash...

Um, thanks for the comment. Notice I said I filmed it in Hi-8. I DO have digital now, but back then..this is all we had. I was in high school, it's a little different now that I'm in COLLEGE. But anyway....uh....thanks.
