Reviews for "The Human Genome"

Not sure about this...

Not that I'm saying it's a bad tune, but I have absolutely no idea where you found the idea to call it "The Human Genome".

Personally, I thought that the opening and ending reminded me of a wildlife program about cuttlefish (Don't mind me, I'm just musing here :P) but when the drums kick in, it really takes off to more of a night club piece, as that's what clubs tend to have these days.

A nice short tune and the single handedness of the keyboard all the way through sounds so great, that it's simply the best part of the track. Was this entirely done by computer, or did you actually wire up a keyboard for it?

Alright

Well I do have a slight problem with this one, there is a kind of fuzz on the top of everything which I find to be distracting from everything else. Though I do like the sounds of everything else, they all do fit in well with the whole flow and everything as well as the ammount of diversity in this peice, I guess you could say it represent the Human Genome in diversity, lol.

The ending is good, it all slows down and comes to a stop and the opening is fine too, gradually building up, the main tune is also very good, just the part with the fuzz sound that bothers me here, otherwise very nice :)

Mataro responds:

I quite enjoyed all the atmospherics of this piece as well. There was a lot of new stuff I tried in this one.. To name a few;
DNB Style
Synthy Storm sort of atmosphere (this one really reminds me of a storm at sea)
Used a bunch of new synths I'd never touched before
Breakbeat/Glitch drums (those took a long time to write x.x)

I thought the ending came off well too, but as for the fuzz.. It's a layer of distortion on the drums to make them pack more punch and give them a harsher feel. Without the distortion the whole track has a pretty smooth feel.. But I think it would lose that stormy feel, and it definitely wouldn't represent the human genome very well :P

I dunno', the distortion on the drums is always hit or miss with people, some like it, some don't. Thanks for the great review anyway, I appreciate it! :D

YOU!

YOU SUBMITTED THIS SONG! BUT YOU DIDN'T TELL ME! EVEN THOUGH I LIKED IT!

>:(

But I'll review it anyway, just because I submitted a song earlier this week that needs reviewing too. *teh hint hint* If I feel like it I'll listen to and possibly review the other song.

So I suppose this is one of your favorite genres? Because you've definitely been putting a lot of effort into it. :D The synths are great - especially that erratic, trebley one. ;D The arped one is also pretty neat, and I have no complaints about your composition. It's all a really great song. :D

Your drums are probably the only problem - the samples you've chosen are very crackly... you might want to EQ the very highest frequencies out of them to minimize that crackly effect. They're the only thing that's keeping you from getting a perfect 10/10. :'(

Otherwise, though, this is a pretty awesome song! :D You'd better submit the finished version seperately, so I can review it too. >:) Keep it up, this is definitely one of your best.
