Maybe it's just on my PC, but the hero is hit with the fireballs before the enemies even appear on the screen. I understand that this is a game of trial and error, but this kind of start is really discouraging, especially without any plot explanation or basis

This is a very short game, and my first public-worthy effort. In it, you engage in combat in an arena. The game is, again, very short, but expect at least a little bit of challenge.
-Arrows/WASD to move
-Z/J to dash
-X/K to attack
-M to toggle mute
The game is made using Godot. All art assets are original using Aesprite, and SFX are royalty-free downloads from Pixabay.

That's fair. Trail-and-error is certainly the expectation and for a longer game I would include more setup and some easier levels, but I can see how the blindsiding attacks can be a little much. I'll definitely keep that in mind in the future, thank you for the critique.
