Author Comments

In RGB Square, you control a square character navigating through a colorful world. As you move, beams of various colors approach you. When you come into contact with a beam, your square's color blends with it, creating a new hue.

Core Mechanics

  • Primary Colors: All colors in the game are formed by combining Red, Green, and Blue.
  • Black Squares: Avoid these as they diminish your color values.
  • Color Attributes: Each color grants unique abilities and effects.
  1. Red: Increases movement speed.
  2. Green: Affects size, score multiplier, and health. If Green reaches 0, you die.
  3. Blue: Enables shooting bullets. Requires 25 units of Blue per bullet.

Additional Features

  • Random Triangles: These objects add their color to any beam they touch. They can also give enemies some color while losing some.
  • Color Detection Algorithm: Determines your current color and grants abilities accordingly.

Special Color Abilities

  • Red: When you press 'Q', you can kill enemies by colliding with them for 2 seconds.
  • Green: When you press 'Q', summon 3 green spirits to attack closest enemies.
  • Blue: Increased firing speed.
  • Turquoise: Bullets are 2 times faster.
  • Violet: Bullets do not consume blue.
  • Teal: Symmetrical fire.
  • Silver: Bullets move in a guided manner.
  • Black: Teleport to the location of the mouse cursor on the screen.
  • Orange: Instead of bullets, you shoot triangle objects.
  • Platinum: When you press 'Q', color of everything will be changed randomly.
  • Gold: You will gain 2x Score from everything.
  • Lime: Bullets are 2 times slower.
  • Lavender: When you press 'Q', enemies are directed towards triangles for 2 seconds.
  • Amber: When you press 'Q', Summon a white colored enemy outside of screen.
  • Indigo: Enemies cannot detect you.
  • White: You have the passive of every other color.

Controls

  • Move: WASD or Arrow Keys
  • Shoot: Mouse Click
  • Pause: Space
  • Special Ability: Q

Treasure Hunt review!

### Aesthetics: 4 / 10

It's got a cool vibe but unfortunately the gameplay doesn't allow for a lot of art.

### Originality: 9 / 10

Very cool gimmick, using the three color channels to affect gameplay in a lot of ways. It's a little reminiscent of GemCraft.

### Challenge: 7 / 10

It's really hard and frantic but feels too random to really utilize a lot of skill.

### Fun factor: 4 / 10

It's fun to experiment but I mostly find myself locked into just a few color abilities.

### Content: 4 / 10

A very surprisingly high amount of color abilities, but there's not enough else in the game to justify trying them all.

### Total: 28 / 50

(The Treasure Hunt review score is different from the standard Newgrounds review score because it uses different criteria.)

overly complex

That's a lot of colors to remember
