Story:
Late at night you enter their world. You will inhabit a girl named Abby and influence the world around her. Accompanied by her brother Michael you will traverse beautiful lands, unfamiliar places, and dark forests. Careful your presence has caught the attention of something sinister...
Many indie RPGs claim to be a new quirky game, but Away From Home is a mix of many great RPGs. It captures weirdness, difficult decision making, and a beautiful story. The game combines traditional RPG gameplay with rhythm game elements! The characters are full of emotion and let you empathize with them. Don't forget that this world needs you.

Well made sprites and environment, though the mechanics did throw me for a loop. I experienced lag on some of the notes and the "special attack" segment was really confusing. Though i understand this is a demo, so these things will probably be fixed at some point!
First of all, I LOVED the artstyle and the animations! It really brings me a sense of nostalgia that I didn´t remebered lol, and second of all, even if I suck ass on rhythm games, this one was so good that I actually made an effort lmao
My only complain would be that the system it´s a tiny bit weird to understand, I got stuck on the special attack part since I didn´t knew what to do, but eh, maybe I´m just dumb. Either way, this looks super promising, and I´d love to see the finish product someday! This deserves more recognition!
Okay, I'm just stuck at the combat tutorial. First, it was very unclear how attacks worked (I falsely assumed that keeping the arrow pressed was needed to "release" the vertical bars... and then my attack would not launch even when the timing was right). And then... I am just stuck with defense. I am doing everything right, no hit, and this "AHAHAHAHA-- feeble villain!" still comes again. Which is kind of a shame: if you cannot properly teach your players how to play the game, you basically wasted your efforts. Maybe 1) have attack bars coming at a regular pace while the dialogue is still going on, and the player can then hit any of these bars to throw the first punch, and 2) IDK, fix the rest of the tutorial?
EDIT: I could go on, once I noticed that 1) you do not have to only use the down arrow when the game tells you to use the down arrow, and 2) the colors of the arrows are not linked AT ALL with the colors of the bars. This is pretty bad conveyance, and probably needs to be improved.
The rest of the tutorial clearly suffers, on the other hand, from too-much-information-itis. We were implicitly asked to understand how the game had to be played in steps 1 and 2, and then we're given detailed info about special attacks, HP, and Gosh knows what, instead of just "hey, when bar full, hit right prepare special, then hit right kick ass".
Also, it takes a pretty long time before that to actually gain control of the character... which, at this stage, we have no idea she will actually be a playable character. I mean, I was expecting to be able to control the character we see in the intro sequence, but no, I could only move a floating drop of water. This was kind of presented like a (very cliche) introductory dream sequence, so that I logically inferred that I would be playing the character who was having this dream, which should be the one sleeping. But hey, the charcter who was (supposedly) still sleeping was a boy, so... The playable character was the one moving without my input? The one I should be controlling? I should be pressing S in front of the bed to make things happen.
And everything seems pretty normal, like a brother and a sister "playing", so... What was the intro about?
This was all sorts of confusing.
Which is really a shame, because a blend between RPG/adventure and rhythm game with such gorgeous graphics is ABSOLUTELY a game I want to play. I just got confused by the introduction and the pretty long time during which I could do nothing, then I could suddenly move but nothing told be about it and I waited 10 seconds for something to happen, and after that, I got annoyed by a tutorial that was, let's say, perfectible. I still want to play the finished game, but I definitely get why some people would not get convinced by this slice.
What a great demo!! The art style and sprites are so cute and colorful, and the rhythm game esque battle mechanics is really unique for an rpg! I can't wait for the full game!
