Episode 6 for Newgrounds is here!

Shortly after Episode 5 was made, I went right back to experimenting with new things with the character studio. I wanted to have more moments with full movement, like when Lillie and Yumi were walking down the street. So I decided to try a short scene of Mia exercising to show off new camera tricks I had learned, as well as moving a character along a path to make them run. Making Mia jog was tricky, since I was very much new to this kind of animation, but I don't think it came out too bad for a first attempt at it. The cast and I mentioned this in our commentaries on YouTube, but I'll share our discussion here.

Every new episode, we tried something new. Whether it was a new camera trick, animation, or even character development, we wanted to make sure that every episode offered something new visually and thematically. Episode 5 and 6 were great stepping stones and working on those taught me a lot when it comes to cinematography. They also taught me the importance of watching the episode before I start rendering. I can't tell you how many times I've seen something clip and I've had to render the whole video again. Absolutely taxing to the soul.

Fun fact - in the original YouTube version, where Rio starts to tell Lillie about Mia's reputation, the camera rotates from the back of Rio's head to his profile. Lillie's eyes somehow phase through Rio's hair and you can see them very clearly. Luckily, I still had the original sequence on my computer, so I was able to reshoot it to fix it for the Newgrounds version.
